that MB has no info about track length+offset for non-CD releases -- or am I misunderstanding?

Yaniel
what would be the offset for a downloaded file
2020-05-02 12338, 2020
SothoTalKer
track length is put in by users for non cd releases based on information from the cover/booklet or from what is displayed in a player/info window from a digital file

Yaniel
the CD ID is mostly for identifying the disc when ripping it so your ripper can get the right metadata

offset information for non-CD releases is not existant. well, you can calculate the offset from the length of the previous tracks. :)

Yaniel: it makes sense as long as there is a single version, though. Not every album has 20 different releases
2020-05-02 12355, 2020
SothoTalKer
but the info is only exact to whatever value people put in for track length
2020-05-02 12315, 2020
SothoTalKer
as TOCs from CDs go down to the milliseconds in accuracy, you can have releases with slightly different TOCs and therefore disc ids :)

d33cee: how accurate do you need the data to be?
2020-05-02 12316, 2020
d33cee
SothoTalKer: Not too, because I'll be putting it into a playlist where I can easily tweak the values if it turns out to cut off tracks.

if its for CDs the cuetools db is likely the best source, at that gets filled whenever people use a modern ripper
2020-05-02 12316, 2020
SothoTalKer
it currently has close to 5.4 million different Disc IDs in it

but i get the occasional disc which is not in there :P

musicbrainz has also close to 300000 CD "stubs", which is basically just TOC information, where there is no release or the TOC information has not been added to a release yet: musicbrainz.org/cdstub/browse
This is strange. Shouldn't this edit have been applied already due to Yes votes? https://musicbrainz.org/edit/68713771 The only No vote was changed to Yes more than 1 hour ago.
Even though the no vote was changed, it looks like the delay is still 72 hours according to https://musicbrainz.org/doc/Introduction_to_Voting because there isn't anything there about canceling the delay.

IIRC I've seen other edits which had No vote before apply within 1 hour after it was changed.

or if the date edit is entered into MB web first, how long before the green tagger button will include the updated date to picard?
