people cite sources when adding data
      • Freso
Jozo: What if your history teacher taught you a wrong year in school? Or if your history text book got a data wrong? (E.g., 2001-11-09 instead if 2001-09-11.)
      • *date
      • Jozo: It's still a fact. It's a wrong fact, but that's how these things go.
      • Jozo
Freso: You still not se my point
      • Freso
Jozo: A deliberate hoax is a work of fiction, which I already addressed earlier.
      • CatQuest
[20:55] <Jozo> CatQuest: There is street on google on other maps thats not real what? for real?
      • Jozo
      • CatQuest
whats the difference between thes two links?
      • Jozo
        CatQuest: Nothing. :)
      • CatQuest
well in the thing about this place thatsa s treet that's erranous, it is well documented that in fct, this does not exist
      • it's like those releases that where said to exist, but was never relased
      • or recorded
      • CatQuest came across a few of those
      • Jozo
CatQuest: BTW you may find some Easter Eggs on your local city map if you see carefully...
      • CatQuest
well I didn't know about this and it's kinda interesting.. but well
      • Jozo
CatQuest: And there are not well documented...

      • CatQuest: Some of my local town was documented on: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Finland:H%C3... ... but any links not working anymore
      • CatQuest: And what you think if city about 67000 population has three documented easter eggs... Is it common happit?
      • kepstin-work notes that hey got a package in the mail yesterday that presumably contains a keyboard - and he'll pick it up from the post office today.
      • CatQuest
I don't really care I'm tying to fix my chroem problem
      • kepstin-work: HEY! that would be mine yes! :D
      • \o/
      • kepstin-work
seems to have made it in time to come to germany with me :)
      • CatQuest
        good good
      • hawke_1
CatQuest: btw, you can compare maps at http://tools.geofabrik.de/mc/?lon=24.51551&...
      • Though I don’t see the easter egg any more
      • Jozo
Finland on maps and findings easter eggs :)
      • That reminds me that I HAVE TO map some local buildings.
      • CatQuest
right now I don't really care enough about maps to care that they are all incorrect and my lifelong devotion to maps as a correct source is invalidated thank you. I am having trouble with this dildos chrome
      • Jozo
Im stuck 28 chromium 'cos on 29 scripts do not work any more
      • CatQuest: Do you have same problem with your dildos?
      • CatQuest
ok seriously jozo can yo ustop pinging me unlesyou have something spesific to say to me
      • Jozo
        CatQuest: ok :)
      • CatQuest
"ok" is not such a thing
      • Jozo
        CatQuest: Ok
      • CatQuest has left the channel
      • hawke_1: I'm not seeing any easter eags anymore on Hämeenlinna (there still may some)... But Is OpenstreetMap more perfect than Google or Bing? :)
      • hawke_1
Jozo: It depends on what part of the world you’re in, and how many active mappers there are.
      • For Germany, probably yes.
      • Jozo
hawke_1: And on Hämeenlinna city openstreetmap is much more correct than Google.... but on outsaid.
      • hawke_1
        Yep…
      • Freso
        Interesting...
      • Looks like I may have GPL compliance case coming up.
      • intgr
Btw I wrote a bot to upload cover images from Bandcamp for releases that have BC links and no front cover. Good idea? Bad idea? Thoughts? https://musicbrainz.org/user/intgr_bot/edits/open
      • Jozo
hawke_1: (I have mapped some parts on Hämeenlinna and neighborhuud..... So I may incapetable say anything)
      • hawke_1
        intgr: good idea.
      • Freso
intgr: I think that's splendid! I wish we had more bots getting cover art into the CAA system. :)
      • Jozo
Freso: What happened last time bot uploaded cover arts?
      • flamingspinach
        intgr: thanks!
      • what I would really like is a vgmdb CAA bot :)
      • Leftmost
        Freso, GPL compliance case?
      • intgr
There are ~2236 VGMdb releases with no art and ~2800 for Bandcamp.
      • Freso
Leftmost: A company refusing to give out the source code to a GPL licencsed program they distribute.
      • flamingspinach
but bandcamp has at most one image per release and vgmdb often has a dozen or more :)
      • Leftmost
        Interesting.
      • Freso
        *licensed
      • Leftmost
I'm currently waiting to hear back on sources for a GPL-licensed font.
      • intgr
        flamingspinach: True.
      • Freso: Do you have any copyrights to the program?

There's a sequal to our Digital Single discussion on http://recochoku.jp/album/30286441/ :(
      • CatQuest joined the channel
      • this digital single has the artwork of the not-yet-released album
      • Leftmost
intgr, if it's available under the GPL, you don't need to.
      • yindesu
the name of the digital single is also the name of the not-yet-released album, but it only has 1 track.
      • intgr
Leftmost: I mean it won't be easy to sue them unless you have any authorship in the program.
      • Leftmost
There are a few lawyers who specialize in GPL violations, I believe.
      • Freso
intgr: Oh, I'm not going to sue them.
      • Leftmost
Bradley Kuhn would know what to do.

        And there's Harald Welte/gpl-violations.org
      • Freso
But I will be redirecting issues to the copyright holders and inform the FSF.
      • intgr
But they usually work with copyright owners from what I can tell.
      • Right

Freso: join #faif and ask bkuhn when he's around
      • CatQuest
        hello warp
      • Freso
        warp: Cheers. :)
      • CatQuest
ugh i hate it when the official page of some stuff goes missing, and then the other website is still lniking it (this case is fisher price music)
      • snartal
Does the editor mxm_susan hang here under a different name?
      • CatQuest
        dunno. don't think so
      • Freso
        snartal: Nope.
      • snartal: What's up?
      • snartal
nm, just was going to do an edit on an artist they added... the editor had lots of edits, so thought they might be here.
      • CatQuest
        eeehhhhh
      • warp
        hello CatQuest
      • snartal
Wait.... you can get paid for this stuff???? I'm doing it for Free!!!!!!
      • warp
        phew
      • Freso
snartal: Yeah. No. She reads edit notes, but does not always reply to them. Also, she rarely goes back to fix things (unless take an edit of hers hostage with a "No" vote until it's fixed).
      • warp
(so many featured artists on this release...)
      • CatQuest
        snartal: exactly what freso said
      • snartal
Thanks Freso, I'll skip the email and just fix it.
      • CatQuest
        :D
      • snartal
Wait.... I can do them wrong and get paid too!!!!! I'd be really good at that!
      • CatQuest
        :/
      • intgr
        That's industrial sabotage!
      • Leftmost
I'm very bad at adding things in a wrong fashion, I think.
      • CatQuest
        :D
      • flamingspinach
that's not holding an edit hostage, that's how you should vote
      • intgr
I usually start with abstain and wait a few days just to be friendly
      • CatQuest
usually you can talk to people and they will respond. she des not respond unless yo uvote no
      • snartal
No biggie, will just change it, even though I swore off sort name edits :)
      • Jozo
I'm happy when someone add new release. But If it adds it twice on two weeks, I'm not so happy
      • Freso
intgr: I used to do that. But like CatQuest says, Susan needs a no vote to respond.
      • Jozo: What if they add it twice within 10 minutes? :p
      • (Ie., mxm_susan...)
      • *E.g.
      • intgr
Right, I agree that's a good tactic if you know this particular editor.
      • Jozo
It may more easier to musicmatch and our to delegate that stuff
      • CatQuest
        what?
      • Jozo
CatQuest: I can add some releases on every friday than fixin stuff
      • CatQuest
you don't need to ping me to explain that stuff
      • Jozo
        +more happily
      • Next time when Susan adds some finnish release I ask if she can share "add this" list with our
      • (On my todo list is check all Susan's add releases on Finnish artists..)
      • flamingspinach
edits are now prevented from failing for a couple days after the most recent no-vote, so IMHO that's not really necessary :)
      • Leftmost
flamingspinach, I think it seems polite.
      • Jozo
flamingspinach: I have seen many many bad edits and I said nothing, or voted
      • flamingspinach
I guess, but I'll be leaving a comment saying what's wrong with the edit anyway
      • CatQuest
that's good always say that in edit notes
      • maybe if she gets enough she'll start to realise stuff
      • Leftmost
Of course, but I think a no vote can be a bit strong unless the edit is clearly just wrong. I think it's generally better policy to abstain and leave an edit note, then no vote if they clearly have no intention of fixing it.
      • Jozo
I say nothing cos I do not know how say politely
      • yindesu
my favorite is when the edit is correct but they got it correct by accident.
      • then I can vote yes and leave a comment safely :)
      • Leftmost
How do you get it correct by accident? :-P
      • yindesu
by using a record company as the release label
      • Jozo
yindesu: He you are... I want your comment on Digital Releases and labels.... (Hjum... I los my question but...)
      • yindesu
I haven't seen agreement between auto-editors on the Release Label of digital singles.
      • I've seen them use imprints which don't appear on the front cover, and I've seen others use record companies
      • and then we have universal music japan, where record companies trump all non-Universal-owned imprints :)
      • Jozo
yindesu: http://chatlogs.musicbrainz.org/musicbrainz/201... (If you not read already
      • yindesu
        sounds like kuno is wrong?
      • Phonographic Copyright != Release Label whatsoever
      • Jozo
https://beta.musicbrainz.org/release/fa2d0635-f... itunes links and CD media... open edits
      • yindesu
also, iTunes doesn't come up with the phonographic copyright
      • the string is provided by the record company
      • Jozo
more can be found on http://reports.mbsandbox.org/report/61/view (really needs open edits)
      • yindesu
and the record company doesn't always provide phonographic copyright. some include non-music copyright (for the artwork or other things) and no mention of phonographic copyright
      • Jozo
yindesu: we really need phonographic copyright relation
      • yindesu
what we really need is a proper split of Companies from "Release Labels"(defined as Imprints)
      • Freso
        +1
      • warp
        yindesu: never! :)
      • yindesu
if we had both a "Label"(Imprint) and "Record Company" field ala discogs, there would be no controversy - your choice is either right or wrong
      • not, "but because this is a digital release, we use phonographic copyright instead of logos"
