nikki feels the need to point out that despite people complaining every time it goes down, the caa is apparently not as broken as people seem to think
nikki
it now accounts for a quarter of all releases with cover art, and the number of releases with caa covers is increasing 10 times as a fast as the number of releases with cover art from asins
(and that's even though hrglgrmpf is running a bot that adds asins)
okay, picard has an option to delete apev2 tags. what if I want to prefer apev2 over id3v2 though? (ie, delete id3v2 and ADD apev2)
kepstin_
causasui: on what file format, mp3?
kepstin_ notes that picard does write apev2 tag on a few formats, when it's the standard tag type for that format
the main reason not to use apev2 tags on mp3 is that most players won't read them - and since the tags format isn't designed for mp3, it doesn't desynchronize, so some players might play an apev2 tags as noise...
(but anyways, picard won't let you write apev2 tags to mp3s - and the real reason for that option is that some players prefer reading the apev2 tags, and don't see picard's updates unless you remove them...)
causasui
I don't use any players that don't support apev2 and won't
wherever I am playing music it is always streaming through mpd anyway
as kepstin said, it writes it for formats where it's standard. it doesn't let you write them to mp3s

[2013-06-07 14:28:33] <flamingspinach> why do you have to be logged into musicbrainz to see edit pages?
derwin
"because"
(no good reason, I think)
ianmcorvidae
my understanding is that the notion is to sort of hide the "ugly" bits -- hiding edit pages means that things said in edit notes etc. are in-community, not really public
which can help prevent some of the friction between talking in a public persona and focusing on doing the right thing
whether that reasoning is reasonable I'm not sure :P but I think that's where it comes from

Mineo
wow, 504, that's a new one
ianmcorvidae
there will probably be more of those actually
504 is what happens when the frontend times out, vs. when the backend server times out
and the backend timeout is now 60s, which is the same as the frontend, where it used to be 30s backend and 60s frontend
Mineo
ah
ianmcorvidae
so you're likely to get 504s in cases where you used to get 502s
Mineo
that makes sense
ianmcorvidae
(but fewer errors of either type overall, hopefully)
CatQuest
why the fk does soemone make a bot to add asins?
well with the intent of adding coverart
ianmcorvidae
I don't think the bot that adds ASINs is there for getting coverart, it's there for linking ASINs as a remote identifier
CatQuest
hmm. is this thing broken
its fucking jumpy whenver I do scrollback
:///@
ah well then it's ok
just the way nikki said it about the bot
i also add asins
I'm a bit sceptical about adding asins by bot tho, you *really* have to be careful to get the right version
nikki
it uses barcodes
CatQuest
yea.
not a good idea
nikki
the edits its made against artists I'm subscribed to have all been correct so I just approved them
CatQuest
oh theedits are open? t
nikki
yes
CatQuest
that's alright then
nikki
I always add asins if I can, yet somehow I keep missing some
every time the bot comes along I'm like "wtf? why doesn't it have one already!" :P
CatQuest
does ti d omp3/cd version right too?
also I have a hard time.. this amazon does not sisplay brcodes :/
nikki
it checks formats and afaik the mp3 ones don't have barcodes, so I guess so
I'm trying to setup the mbslave postgres DB, does anyone know if I can pick and choose which files from the dump to import into the DB or if you have to import all of them for it to work? https://bitbucket.org/lalinsky/mbslave/src
