I've been using the mb lookup in Amarok, but lately I've noticed that it appears to be using extant ID3 data as part of how it searches for results. Is this Musicbrainz behaviour or Amarok somehow?

Wyatt: it could only be
Wyatt: it could only be Amarok (sorry, hit enter too quickly there)
the audio file's not being sent to MB, only whatever gets extracted from it by amarok :)
Wyatt
Well, yeah... I'm just trying to verify that musicbrainz exclusively uses the MBID and nothing else.
ianmcorvidae
no, it uses whatever it's sent -- it's possible to send it search queries and such things too
Wyatt
Ahh, so it depends on how the API is used.
Got it.
ianmcorvidae
yes -- but if id3 tags are being used, that's amarok choosing to use them
Wyatt
Right, this is a bug for the API consumer (amarok).

Wyatt: if you are using amarok, you might want to look at beets for tagging your stuff
because you can use it from a commandline and then you will have your collection related to musicbrainz in the tags..
Wyatt
derwin: I tried running that at one point but it was bailing on something (don't remember what). Does beets cope well with unicode?
derwin
Wyatt: I have used it to tag touhou music, so yeah
Wyatt
derwin: That's a pretty good endorsement, I'll admit. I'll see about giving it another shot, I suppose.
derwin
also the author is very helpful
and it has come a long way
it is why I have done so many musicbrainz submission
because I can tag my stuff on the server, etc..
Wyatt
Yeah, it's been about half a year since I looked at it, I think.

Hm. If picard does not find the songs via scan, but via lookup. How can I supply that scan information back to musicbrainz? The "Submit"-brain-button is greyed out :/
ianweller
lilleman: try dragging the songs from the right side to the left and back again? that for some reason will sometimes trigger the submit button
ianmcorvidae
it also depends if you have an API key configured for acoustid
(assuming that's what you're using)
without one it can't submit them, only use them to scan
(if you aren't using acoustid -- start, PUIDs are terrible :P)

wtf, it seems like picard is sometimes saving tags in %musicbrainz_albumid% and sometimes in %musicbrainz album id%

Could someone point me to the editing doc about real names vs. performance names?
assuming I don't find it first in the next few minutes...
CallerNo6 scours youtube trying to identify http://musicbrainz.org/recording/f45e2269-49d9-416e-9537-fc3959653937 . Who knew there were so many ways to be sad at a wedding?

One way per village apparently.
Ever helpful, youtube is suggesting that what I really want to hear is Der Kommissar.
