hawke_1: picard has used aliases for a while now, it only falls back to unsorting the sortname if there isn't one
      • hawke_1
        Oh, OK.
      • Might be nice to remove that unsort option so that people can see where that info is missing. :-)
      • Especially since adding/setting an alias is an autoedit

        everywhere, basically
      • hawke_1
        Hmm
      • Still, hiding it seems sub-optimal.
      • nikki
1052 artists with any locales set
      • 369 with english, 112 with english for a particular country
      • hawke_1
How many total, with non-Latin scripts?
      • nikki
        hm?
      • hawke_1
How many artists with non-Latin names are there total (approximately)?
      • CallerNo6 joined the channel
      • nikki
        hawke_1: 26,028 artists containing non-latin, non-symbol, non-punctuation characters
      • hawke_1
        so about 4% locale’d aliases
      • nikki
        (61,665 containing non-ascii characters)
      • reosemiafk
nikki: counting stuff like õ ?
      • (the 26 k)
      • nikki
\p{Latin} includes all the accented stuff like that
      • reosemiafk
        Oh, ok
      • Just wondering because Latin 1 apparently doesn't
      • nikki
        latin 1 sucks :P
      • reosemiafk
        Certainly
      • But it's still what we use
      • (in MB, for deciding when to show the sortname)
      • marenostrum
related with that image. Then I read some more. Its said that there are two ways to serve such images: 1) Via metadata/ID tag 2) By embedding some codes into the mp3 file. I couldn't get a result from the first way so I tried to find out if I can see the "embedded" thing(s). Search resulted that Picard has a GNU/Linux version and it can do that. I installed Picard and briefly read the documents, but I can't get a result. Can Picard tell me if
      • there's any image embedded in a mp3 file and show me what it is? If yes, would you please tell me how or point to a specific source for the task. Thanks in advance.
      • nikki
        reosemiafk: tiiiicket then :P
      • reosemiafk
nikki: I thought that was a "feature" :p
      • nikki
well, I don't think showing accented stuff outside latin-1 was supposed to be a feature, it's just that it was poorly done because js doesn't support awesome things like \p{Latin}. but I don't see why we can't add a couple more ranges to the regex
      • reosemiafk
        marenostrum, tried easytag?
      • It can definitely *remove* embedded cover art if you want
      • marenostrum
reosemiafk, No. Does it have a GNU/Linux version?
      • reosemiafk
        Should
      • Actually, eyeD3 should be able to do it too, according to http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9830490&...
      • (give it the actual track title instead of *.mp3, of course)
      • nikki
I was about to mention eyeD3
      • marenostrum
reosemiafk, I don't want to remove. I want to know what's going on and want to learn there's such a code embedded.
      • reosemiafk, By the way, thank you for the easytag advice.
      • Mineo
marenostrum: if you already have picard installed, you can run "mutagen-inspec file.mp3 | grep -i apic" to find out if the picture actually is in the mp3 file
      • *mutagen-inspect
      • marenostrum
Mineo, Wow, thanks. That will be very very nice.
      • Mineo, no result but thank you very much for the help. (I managed to run the command; checked it without grep part, and I can view the output but nothing related in it. Thanks again.
      • Mineo
then maybe vlc is pulling cover art from somewhere
      • marenostrum
Mineo, I think the very same thing and try to learn but it would be something weird. What's more the interesting image has some relation with the artist of the file. Its some kind of their friend from Facebook. Can VLC tahe artists' friends' photos from Facebook and serve it? I'm about to loose my mind. Ehere does that image come?! :)) Anyway... Thanks a lot.

marenostrum: I'm not sure how many people in here use VLC to play music and/or are familiar with VLCs cover art stuff, but I think your chances of finding an answer are higher in #videolan :)
      • marenostrum
Mineo, You are right. I was trying to find out if there's arelated code in the file before asking videolan people. Appearently Picard is not tailored for this task.
