hiya, I was wondering: do we keep the collaborations between a composer and a lyricist as one "artist" or do we split them ? I seem to remember some splitting but I'm not sure ^^

Apparently, the release of this is as a track upload to SoundCloud.

I'd be fine with adding it as a standalone recording, but not so sure if it's a good idea as a release.

the editnote is useless, I don't see the release or recording there.

Freso: I'll correct the medley edits you've voted (I thought it only applied when the works were changed) but in one of the edit notes you say that we shouldn't use "cover recording" for traditional songs. Is it always true ? For example, on this cd some trad. songs are arranged from different versions, it's kind of a cover recording, isn't it ?

Sekhmetouserapis: The concept of "covers" doesn't really apply on the trad. scene.

Sekhmetouserapis: Tunes and songs are in a constant flux, and you can't really perform a tune or a song without it being a cover of someone else's version.

(Unless you learned it from sheet music, but then we're moving away from the trad. scene - and even then, the sheet music would've had some arrangement which you have to build on top of.)

And what is cover.... Cover flag on recording level is impractical

yeah, i'd pretty much put "cover" to any trad song if it were up to me ^^

(Perhaps just "modern music" really, and not so much "pop/rock".)

Jozo: The data in SHS is public domain - like the MusicBrainz data, they're facts. The data set they publish, however, is "for research purposes only" - which basically means "all rights reserved", but they allow researchers to use it.

Freso: Ok. It might be interesting to make a bot that compares MusicBrainz and SHS's content. And maybe add new information to MusicBrainz.

Jozo: I think murdos' bot already does this. Or least I'm pretty sure I've seen some bot add work language based on SHS.

And murdos' bot adds artist URL relationships based on work URL relationships for SHS too.

But I'm not sure whether he's screen scraping or how he's approaching the problem.

I like this release. Most of the songs are marked as "trad." even though they have well known composers and lyricists, and then the one song that at least actually has a trad. tune (but "modern" words) is not listed as trad. \o/

I've added SHS links to finnish artist yesterday.. I found that SHS is pretty reliable source born/died dates... for example artist: http://musicbrainz.org/artist/b4959961-ecc4-4a0... (wikipedia, shs and discogs linked... shs is best source for bots)
