so, then where to credit the named quartet? at the release level? someone told me that was just for 'not sure which recordings' as far as performances.

Then it's usually fairly safe to assume if they say violin they mean violin
it *might* change between first and second violin for some quartets (most don't)
but since we don't store that bit of info anyway... :)
I'd put it as recording artist (not track artist)
And it's also part of the release artist field
I wouldn't add it with a relationship, same as I wouldn't add, say, "Black Sabbath performed this recording" with a relationship if I have already added all the individual musicians

presently i have the composer as the release artist
and each member of the quartet is credited to each recording
reosarevok
It's supposed to be Composer, Composer; Credited Performer, Credited Performer
amusingly, 502 o'clock is actually around 5pm here
but it's usually 5:15 or so :P

or if you wont vote how does "first last; foobar" get turn into an album artist sort name?
"last, first; foobar" ?

Can I get an opinion for making sure I properly title an album...
Duncan Sheik released an Album last year called "Covers 80s", in which that's litterally what's written on the album - like such: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004WOXL6U
but, he just released a remix album, and on the album it's physically written as "Covers Eighties Remixes" - but all the stores (itunes, amazon, etc) is labeling it as "Covers 80s Remixes"
Freso
skd5aner: Are you adding the physical or a digital release?
skd5aner
I'm assuming the proper thing to do in MB would be to call it "Covers Eighties Remixes" because that's what's physicall written, correct? And also, would I put it as it's own release group, or add it to the original "Covers 80s" release group?
Freso: Both I suppose
Freso
skd5aner: A release can't be both. :)
skd5aner
I meant, add two releases
Freso
skd5aner: Then add each as they're written.
E.g., the CD "80s", the digital "Eighties".
And call the release group whichever.
skd5aner
Freso... that's not how it goes...
The coverart for both the physical and the digital for the remix album both say "Eighties"
the tags, however, say "80s"
Freso
skd5aner: You get what I mean though.
skd5aner
yea
Freso
Eh. The tags don't matter.
(IMHO)
skd5aner
how about the release group - since it's a remix release of the origianl release, does it belong in the original release group?
"Hmm, I was going to suggest MusicBrainz might help here - they did have links to sites such as LyricsWiki which apparently have/had licences for lyrics), and it might therefore be possible to get MusicBrainz's Picard tagger to pull them in.But I don't see any evidence of the data documented here http://musicbrainz.org/doc/Has_Lyrics_At_R...;
