why the hell are there no russian timezones? that's a bit odd...
kepstin-laptop
ocharles, they're under Europe/CityName
ocharles
oh, right
dubwai
but if DateTime::TimeZone::Europe::Moscow
kepstin-laptop
it's by continent/city, not country :)
ocharles
right :)
dubwai
now i can edit? :-)
kepstin-laptop
hmm. in the release editor on the recordings association tab - if you do a search and get no results, you can't make the popup box that shows the lack of results go away
ocharles
dubwai: log out and back in, and it should work now
kepstin-laptop: i think we have a bug report for that
hmm. the artist page's overview tab is really a 'release groups' tab.
nikki
yeah
ruaok
thats why I want artist images and artist wikipedia excerpts on that page.
nikki
how would we do images?
kepstin-laptop
some relationships would be good, too
ruaok
machine tagged images in flickr
kepstin-laptop
show artist-artist relationships, at least.
ruaok
we just need to build some pages that funnel people to flickr to do that.
"want an artist image here?" upload to flickr and tell us about the URL here.

kepstin-laptop has a blurry picture of momoi haruko taken from the back of a dark room he could use ;)
and like kepstin-laptop suggest, the artist image links would be good too.
one of the companies I'm talking to right now has request an aritst image headshot AR.
kepstin-laptop
ruaok, I meant more showing artist-artist relationships like groups, performance names, etc.
ruaok
they have a boatload of images they want to link from MB
nikki wonders how many minutes it'll take before someone just finds an image on google, uploads it to a flickr account and tags it
kepstin-laptop
nikki, well, that's flickr's problem to take care of violations there ;)
ruaok
nikki: in that case, just use the artist-image AR.

I wonder if we can squeeze artist images into the cover art project as well.
nikki
ruaok: but that won't display on the page and people will get jealous of the flickr images that do
kepstin-laptop
but yeah, pulling the summary from a wikipedia page onto things with wikipedia links would be really cool.
nikki wonders if we could do the wayback machine thingy for displaying label logos
caller_6 was just thinking the same thing
ruaok
eek, I dont want to go there, nikki.
nikki
bah
nikki might just make a user script to do it then
ruaok
I might drive up the the internet archive (and google) next week to see if we can nail down some basic rules for the cover art project.
nikki just hopes it won't involve "must be your own scans" or it'll be a nightmare to work with
agreed.
hawke__
I have no problem with “must be your own scans”
ruaok
it all depends on what brewster will be ok with.
hawke__
I am generally of the opinion that if I don’t have a copy of a release, I don’t much care about it.
ruaok
and he gets bullish on these things
nikki
hawke_: you're welcome to explain a zillion times to people that they have to go get a scanner, not just copy something from the web then :P
hawke__
And if I have a copy, I can scan it. :-)
kepstin-laptop
and making good scans of album art is tricky, sometimes it's just easier to use a copy someone else scanned :/
nikki
we *still* have people trying to link to random sites that aren't allowed on our whitelist, so I can't see people paying any attention to rules like "you can only upload your own scans"
hawke__
The web has so few decent scans anyway, so who cares? :-)
nikki
depends where you look
hawke__
kepstin-laptop: I don’t think it’s hard at all…at least for CDs.
records might be a bit harder given the size.
kepstin-laptop
hawke__, well, depends the resolution you scan at, and the quality of your scanner's demoire filter
to get a 300dpi image that looks good on a computer monitor requires a good scan and clever use of image editor filters.
once you resize down to about 100dpi or lower, it's not as much of an issue.
(The 500×500 images on Amazon are about 100dpi)

the nice thing about having a scan server is that I won't need to have a directory of scans used as reference material any more: http://people.scs.carleton.ca/~cwalton3/mb/ :)
