does anyone know how to make an ssh tunnel for http stuff with putty?

using IE is annoying

stupid popups and lack of tabs

i'm mostly annoyed with the lack of decent keyboard navigation.

the IE i'm forced to use at work has tabs

oh... turns out mirc can connect too

so IE, mirc and putty can connect, but firefox, opera and msn can't...

did you tell vista those apps were allowed to open?

Just open up command prompt, cd to the directory putty.exe is in,and use it like ssh from teh command line

e.g, instead of "ssh -D 7070 moose [at moose.com]", use putty.exe -D 7070 moose [at moose.com]

I was actually laughing at your view of Vista.

Then plop into Firefox or whatever to use the SOCKS proxy "localhost 7070"

I hit Ctrl T and I'm able to start typing immediately and for it to be entered into the address bar

i don't suffer that in windows at work, but it can be damn slow on my macbook.

I've hardly got cutting edge machines to hand either

Windows on my machine here, Windows, OS X and Ubuntu at work

Got a 4 monitor set up there, one with OS X Leper, one with Ubuntu and the other two are Windows

maybe you'd like to fix all the computers I use then, 'cause I don't know why firefox never works properly :P

it's fast with one tab, it's fast with fifty...

opera uses a lot of ram on me, but not as much as ff, and its much faster

I find them both to be perfectly fast, and both use little enough RAM that it doesn't concern me

Given that, I use Firefox for the extensibility

But holy wars are stupid, and people should use whatever browser works for them
