If it's a simple XMLHttpRequest, then it should be easier still to have a seperate XML-only representation of the data they want.

which is essentially WCAG (w3c accessibility guidelines)... sorry folks -- we have to go there for legal reasons

sounds like a complete clusterfuck.

you could easily use the IBM libraries for accessibility, they've placed the libraries into open source

but a ncessary one.

ruaok: no it's not the clusterfuck it used to be... it's become quite easy these days. section 508 was mandated in 1997/98 since then it's quite easy (ie you don't need to roll your own solution)

XHTML is also more future proof than HTML, as browsers will (ever so) slowly be able to drop the (clunky) HTML parsing in favour of XML + XSL (or other form of styling), which could cover far more ground than HTML: MathML, MusicXML, DocBook, …

luks: HTML 5 would need more development than XHTML 2, I'd think. IMHO/AFAIK, XHTML is 'just another' XML-module after XHTML 1.1, which would mean that a lot of stuff can be handled in other areas. I'd also think that whatever is to be done with HTML 5 is probably also 'ported' to XHTML 2.
