Even leaving aside my unnatural prejudice, Banshee appears to be built using Mono, but not *around* it.

No, I'm afraid I haven't.

I can't say if it's any better, but they do seem to let you do a lot of stuff (though of course Python isn't equivalent to the goals of Parrot or .NET)

I haven't tried a lot of players, before you ask. ;-)

I can't comment on Banshee because I've never gotten it to work. Last time I tried, it ate 600 MB of RAM and then died as soon as I tried importing my library
