i was thinking it's probably a weak imitation of real knäckebröd

ah.. yes it's hard bread. we get some really good versions here.

we buy it in giant round discs here, I was quite mystified what it might be when i first encountered it

and asked my mother in law if it was perhaps some kind of disposable thing to stand hot pots on (hey! that's kinda what it looks like!)

not that i've moved back into teh city proper, i can get all that stuff fresh from local bakers

so are my kids :)

but one is going through a stage of "I can't eat anything that everyone else in the family eats, and that i've eaten my entire life"

and i choose my battles, knäckebröd not being one of them

even the super market versions are decent == wasa

yeah, wasa is the handy dandy square and fits in lunchboxes supermarket grab here too :)

she's not that bad

her big sister was, she decided she was a vegetarian, other than things made from bacon

well, we were at a grill party about 3 months into this

that's my favorite group of vegetarians

and she was making a fuss when the host served her up sausages

the PB & J thing really scared my folks because i'm so small. but the pediatrcian said "it's got everything she needs as long as you can get her to drink milk"

so we told her those were made of bacon

wow.

by the end of the week, she thought even chicken was made of bacon, and was back to eating normal

and she ate them.

LOL

I had friends who went veggie and started not being as healthy.

i still use it on her when she screws her nose up at something "but it's made of bacon"

and she's 16 :)

a visit to the doctor and he said: eat meat!

Although I have to admit, I've never really understood why people are so fussed about, for example, having different kinds of food in some get-together so that everyone can eat.

Everyone chooses their diet. Vegetarian disher are pretty much edible by everyone. If they choose not to eat them, that's their choice.

she asks 'what's a vegetarian', we explained, she asked why people wouldn't eat meat

we say "because they like animals, and think they are cute, among other reasons"

(she is only 8 after all)

she says "but i like animals, they are cute!", we say "oh, are you going to be a vegetarian then?

she humms and hahs, and finally says "no, i think i will be a school teacher or a singer"

finland is quite gorgeous though, helsinki is one of my favourite cities to visit

partly because it's small enough to get around on foot, and after just a day or so you feel quite at home and well oriented

come to think of it, I really still need to visit Oslo.

and Oslo seems like a very nice city that needs exploring.

oslo, on the other hand, i get thoroughly lost in every single time i visit
