It has occurred to me though, in a different sense, something alluded to in the comments to that blog post

A friend of mine is in the database. Her published birthdate is on the artist.

However, it's her "public" birthdate - she's actually 9 years older, but the younger age sells better to the "college guy" crowd

So would we use the real birthdate, or the "public" birthdate?

I'd say we should use no birthdate in that case

yes, but with no way to block adding it back, it's akin to the puid situation

hard to remove, harder to keep blank, easy to be readded by someone who doesn't know any better

well, this is a community database, not a database of "facts" somebody said

(who of us is really checking on such things as birthdate add edits, vs all the remove release and similar edits?)

so if the community doesn't agree, screw artists :)

I'm shoving 11.5k tracks through it.

and to re-save and load album coverart.

I've had to restart it twice, which isn't bad. much improved!

oh and py2app has come a long way.

the work that was there was basically 90% of what's needed to get basic intel support running.

yeah, all of one lockup here so far, and that was due to massive cpu-lock in another program

but 17MB for a .dmg without PUID support is a bit too much :(

mac .app bundles are essentially totally static bundles.

the windows installer is 5MB

i'd be happy if it was 60mb :)

and they work really well without DLL nightmares.

so, they pull in all the shared libs that might be needed and fix them up to run against the local bundle.

they only refs that remain (in a proper .app) are the base system OS shared lib refs.

that balloons the dmg file, but eases install issues.
