        hi
      • i just added a release, but i'm still not sure if i used the right release type. it's a best of release but all tracks were recorded again in a more modern style. i set it to 'remix', is that correct?
      • CatCat
        no, "album"
      • Citizen
        hmm... okay, will fix it
      • Jormangeud^
Citizen: release names look like a compilation to me
      • I guess proper names would be ''Too Much History (disc 1: The Electro Years)'' and ''Too Much History (disc 2: The Metal Years)''
      • Citizen
the cover says 'Vol. 1 - The Electro Years'....
      • i have the two CD version, but you can get each CD on it's own as well
      • that's why i added the (disc 1) and (disc 2)
      • Jormangeud^
oh. probably would have left the disc number out then.
      • Citizen
and it seems like disc 1 is slightly different from my 2-cd-release than the 1-cd release... i miss a hidden track :(
      • metafollic has quit
      • Jormangeud^
        :)
      • Citizen
that's why i kept the (disc 1) and (disc 2)... maybe the 1-cd-release contains one more track
      • Jormangeud^
good, I guess you are the expert on that, having it and all :)
      • Citizen
        :)
      • Jormangeud^
nah, I'm just playing Frets on Fire and drinking beer, please ignore me =D
      • Citizen
        have fun
      • FauxFaux
        Ponies!
      • Jormangeud^
        no ponies here, only reindeer..
      • Citizen
what ARs should i add between the original songs and the new versions on this new release?
      • here it's more cows
      • Jormangeud^
        earliest version if rerecorded.
      • Citizen
      • if the earlier version is on a single and on the album... which one should i use?
      • Jormangeud^
I'd say album, if the release date of the single isn't much earlier.
      • Citizen
*sigh* or there are two versions of an old album, both have the early version... with which should i create the AR ?
      • okay... i will check the release dates
      • metafollic joined the channel
      • Jormangeud^
and still there might not be the earliest release in the database :/
      • Citizen
        right, that can happen also
      • but this artist is quite complete in the database
      • okay... enough musicbraining for me... good night

the government is trying to outlaw psychadelic mushrooms and watching (instead of having) childporn.
      • brianfreud
hmmm, so all they have to do is hire a truck, play childporn, drive it down the street, and they can arrest everyone?
      • ruaok
heard about the former, the latter seems, silly.
      • warp
        brianfreud: something like that, yes.
      • luks
        brianfreud, what's "argh" about it?
      • warp off to the supermarket
      • brianfreud
I just have a basic disagreement there on MB philosophy. I see his changing, but don't yet see it consistantly changed from the "everything ought to be made friendly to the tagger, even if it means a detriment to the data" view.
      • Shepard` joined the channel
      • I just hope to be proven wrong though now :)
      • luks
I don't think he ever used a MB tagger
      • brianfreud
        he did
      • picardqt actually, from what he told me in pms several months back
      • luks
speaking of which, I really need to do a release today
      • brianfreud
        yay! :)
      • had to revert back to a11 for checking submitted puids... a14 just wasn't stable enough for what I needed
      • luks
and will name it 0.9b just for the fun :)
      • Bartman007
are discs containing spoken passages/speeches/etc considered under the domain of musicbrainz?
      • brianfreud
        beta, seriously?
      • Bartman007
        luks: yay!
      • luks
        yes
      • brianfreud
TRMs, you just got your 91 day warning... :)
      • luks
        Bartman007, yes
      • Bartman007 looks on the wiki for naming conventions :-)
      • brianfreud
luks, before you put up the windows version, since there's not been a windows test version since your rewrite, if you want to send me a copy, I'll dump a few thousand files/folders on it, make sure the crashing issue is gone before .9b is "public"...
      • crashing on loading, I mean
      • ruaok watches history unfold
      • ruaok
wow. there are still lots and lots of people who think that classic tagger is the shit
      • ruaok doesn't understand that
      • brianfreud
I think, once PicardQT isn't hidden in the wiki, that opinion will quickly change...
      • ruaok
        it will help, yes.
      • luks
it won't change for people who just want to set artist/title in their tags, ignoring albums
      • Bartman007
ruaok: there are always people that think something is "the shit" until a better thing comes along.
      • ruaok
but classic is still a track oriented tagger, whereas picard is release oriented.
      • luks: ding!
      • luks
but that's the next step once I release this
      • ruaok
yeah, we gotta make people see that picard qt is it.
      • what's that luks?
      • brianfreud
        luks, a "flat" view?
      • luks
a dumb tagger that won't save MB IDs to tags, but will only try to "fix tags"
      • basically a simplified classic tagger
      • ruaok
        interesting concept.
      • similar to something I heard earlier today (yesterday)
      • brianfreud
I've seen the few whines elsewhere about "those damn junk tags MB writes to my files"... but I really don't get it... It's what, 4 tiny tags, and they make the files that much easier to get more info on, if you want it?
      • ruaok
now there are two classes of users. those who can tolerate full MB and those who.... want clean tags
      • luks
brianfreud, well the reason for not saving MB IDs here is different, the tagging won't be accurate
      • brianfreud
oh, I get what you mean
      • ruaok
        don't cross index crap.
      • and even a best guess tagger today would do so much better than classic.
      • classic is laughable.
      • brianfreud
that seems good... when I switched from classic to picard, I was shocked how many releases had been split-tagged to 4, 5, 6 different versions via classic
      • ruaok hangs his head in shame
      • hey, it was good at the time :)
      • things evolve
      • ruaok
tell that to all those still using it. :)
      • brianfreud
lol, "After five years of using the program, I haven't been able to get my classic tagger to work for almost two weeks now..."
      • ruaok runs
      • does the classic tagger have any ability for us to send it a message?
      • ruaok
ya know, that line didn't strike quite like that when I first read it.
      • but pasted in this context its a little whacky.
      • brianfreud
ah, that jumped out at me more than anything in there
      • ruaok
brianfreud: your sleep schedule is way more borked than mine...
      • brianfreud
yeah... much as I try to adapt to 24 hour days, I tend to get into 36 hour ones...
