but either way i do have a mix of audio files and regardless of the filetype support it should still scan some of the files from the container
luks
it tries to open only supported files
so again "does it list .mp3 as a supported format?"
notchamunks
yup and it doesent find the supported files either
No it does not thanks luks
luks
sudo apt-get install libtunepimp5-mp3
notchamunks
so that should give me the mp3 support
so if it still doesent scan recursively into the directory's than what?
luks
it should
notchamunks
checking
luks
but generally you should not try to use it on your complete music library
l8nite joined the channel
notchamunks
oh?
luks
add a few albums, tag them, remove them, GOTO 0
l8nite
brianfreud: sorry about the mis-votes
brianfreud
np :)
didn't realize you were in here, or I'd have just pinged you about them :)
notchamunks
i suppose that would probably be better im just trying to avoid the tediousness of that whole concept
symphonick
notchamunks, Picard doesn't like bad UTF-8 in files & dirs (if you're using UTF8, of course...)
luks
(if you are not using UTF8 :))
bad UTF8 is not UTF8
brianfreud
luks, btw...
symphonick
Eh? What am I trying to say?
GoCatMachine joined the channel
notchamunks
well basically the directory goes /audio/artist/albums/tracks.filetype
brianfreud
I've been doing puid submissions via your script, then double checking for any that get skipped ("No MB ID", etc) by loading into picard and re-scanning, then checking on the ones that don't get a positive puid match from the site.
luks sees "puid" and hides
Muz
Pweed
brianfreud
nono, lol
nothing to actually do with puids
notchamunks
and im at least trying to select the whole artist to avoid having to go album by album and it wont give me a selection of files
brianfreud
I found that some small number did have puids, had identical tags to the site, yet at 75% puid similarity, they weren't finding matches at MB.
notchamunks
symphonick, i dont think i would have bad utf-8
l8nite
personally, if picard doesn't find something on the first try I just rm -rf it
luks
brianfreud, there is no such thing as puid similarity
l8nite
;p
notchamunks
symphonick, this library was previously organized by itunes but i have no luck with itunes and this size of a library
brianfreud
Seems that if a file has a decently long name, 50+ characters, and it has a : in the trackname tag, even when there's a puid match, and the tags are identical (as in just tagged from MB), at 75% on puid, they don't match.
Had to drop it down to 50% to get it to match up...
figured maybe something was funky in your similarity % routine
luks
oh, in picard?
brianfreud
yes
100% identical tag, with puid match, but no match found at 75% (ie, similarity ought to have been calculated to be 100%, was only calculating to 50%)

notchamunks, OK :-) I get those problems from Picard windoze & abcde etc.
I know that.
genii has left the channel
notchamunks
symphonick, any ideas?
luks
brianfreud, normally I'd ask for the file to try it myself, but I really don't feel well enough to do some picard coding right now (sorry)
brianfreud
np
luks
notchamunks, adding the files one by one works?
notchamunks
luks, if i add the files album by album yes
luks
hm, that's weird
brianfreud
I found it on 50 or so out of 3500 files - every single instance it was if a) tracktitle length was 50+ chars, and b) tracktitle contained : ... and only those cases.
luks
it could be a search server issue
brianfreud
oh?
notchamunks
so basically from /audiolibrary/artists/albums/tracknames.filetype i can add /specificalbum/tracksinalbumfolder
brianfreud
why would dropping similarity in picard down to 50% from 75% get a positive match then?
luks
ah, so it finds a match if you lower it
brianfreud
figured it had something to do with how picard calculates puid similarity
yes
no match at anything higher than 50% - but at 50%, it suddenly works
luks
if you can ticketit and send me mail with the file and the bug number, I will look at it later
brianfreud
np, running through all my files, so easy to find a few more instances, given a day or so :)
notchamunks
luks, so basically from /audiolibrary/artists/albums/tracknames.filetype i can add /specificalbum/tracksinalbumfolder
luks
notchamunks, sorry, no idea :(
brianfreud
notchamunks, out of curiousity, how are you adding files?
notchamunks
luks, thanks anyways :)
brianfreud
drag and drop, "add folder", etc?
luks
I'd recommend you do try picardqt, but I don't have a gusty repo
brianfreud, the top left file tree panel im selecting the directory and its not scanning at all but it doesent work if i do it pretty much any other way but i could try them one more time jsut to be 100$
i mean 100%
brianfreud
sorry, thought you were running picardqt, not picard
no idea on oldpicard... been too long since I've used it
notchamunks
is there a .deb for qt?
luks
notchamunks, wait a moment
what do you mean by "scanning"?
you should be able to just drag&drop the directory
without having files in the left lower panel
notchamunks
its not finding the files within the containing directory structure if theres more than one level of directories
i didnt mean to get it confused with scanning the tags
luks
still not sure what exactly is "finding the files"
you find a directory in the left top panel, right?
then you click on it and expect it to list all files in the left bottom panel?
notchamunks
yep
luks
ok, then don't :)
notchamunks
and it doesn't at all
lol so your saying its not supposed to than?
luks
just take the directory from the left top panel, and drag it to "New Files ..." or whether it's called in 0.7
notchamunks
Twitch!
i tried that so many times
and now it works
Gah!
well thanks
and my apologies for my idiocy
oooh thanks for the mp3 support tho it would have taken me a bit to catch that
luks
yeah, ubuntu has "no mp3 in main" policy
so it's not installed by default
notchamunks
yeah it would be nice if ubuntu would allow an option somewhere in the install to grab those files off the bat kus its slightly inconveniencing having to grab em for every install
symphonick
I hope I did mention I prefer archlinux :-)
notchamunks
im trying to add the key for the picardqt repository
luks
symphonick, oh, you must a masochist...
+be
(to be fair, I've never tried archlinux, but I'll always make fun of source-only linux distributions)
symphonick
lol ok
It's actually binary...
notchamunks
I love my .deb's tho i dont think i would trade them for anything at the moment

osx would be nice but im not going to buy a mac for it
l8nite
I loaded a livecd of ubuntu the other day on my laptop, was surprised how easy it was
luks
I like that everything just works in ubuntu on common HW
l8nite
loaded my wireless card, etc on first try
luks
installing windows on this laptop would mean shuffling with a lot of various CDs
notchamunks
i do want a macbook pro but ill wait for one to not cost me an arm leg and a kidney
symphonick
ubuntu is a distro that holds your hand ;-)
l8nite
hehe notchamunks
macbook pro would be nice
DeathWolf has quit
I chug along on my imac :)
notchamunks
get those light sensors working so i can look all godlike switching virtual desktops just waving my hands around
Muz has quit
l8nite, i found a college up the way that sells used macbook pro's for way reduced prices to students and not all of them buy them so i may have to engineer myself a new lappy sometime
l8nite
sounds like a sweet deal
notchamunks
but i think the first thing i would do is drop a ubuntu install on it so i dont have to pirate software kus im broke from buying a macbook pro lol
l8nite
rofl.
