hmm no if i go on wikipedia now i'll waste another afternoon surfing wikipedia instead of going through all lthose old emails and the CotM like I'm supposed to
yllona
BrianG: it got very mixed reviews here in LA, and it's tarantino and rodrigues turf here...
BrianFreud
I think the fact it's really 2 movies in one is confusing some people
catgroove keeps mixing up BrianG and BrianFreud
catgroove
>_<
BrianFreud
o_O
Shepard
me too :o
yllona
surpising... box office was quite awful too... so the fanboyz & girlz didn't even turn out. despite the *enormous* marketing budget
BrianFreud
I'm the one who says lol a lot
BrianG
it isn't the greatest movie, but its a lot of fun
catgroove isn't really interested in movies
catgroove
:(
warp is, but rarely gets around to actually watching them.
warp: ding
warp
hello :)
catgroove
also hi warpen
jellyfish
hello brianfreud
BrianG
the thing with movies is i'm really picky, hard to get myself to invest in 2 hours of something that's more than likely going to suck.
warp
i went to the cinema for inland empire last saturday.
BrianG: as long as it isn't hollywood i tend to enjoy myself :)
BrianFreud loves his IFC and Sundance channels
but i prefer the cinema nowadays,.. i don't have the patience to sit through a movie at home. after 20 minutes i feel the need to do stuff... very annoying.
Shepard
I know that feeling
I guess that's why I stopped watching tv
BrianFreud
see, I can't go out to the movies... I have to be doing *something* when I watch a movie... sitting in a theater for 2 or 3 hours is just no fun
BrianG
listen to some bob marley before you go ;)
yllona
BrianFreud: i loves ifc andsundance too, as well as tcm too. actually, turner classic is my fave.
catgroove
TCM?
I *love* TCM
if its' the same TCM that I have here
BrianFreud
Turner Classic Movies
yllona
catgroove: turner classic movies
catgroove
you said turner calssica laready
that's how I noticed it
yllona
sorry, trying t o eat luch ;)
catgroove
I just couldn't be bothererd with typing 'turner classic movies' over and over :P
ruaok joined the channel
hi ru
BrianFreud
TCM's ok, just too much old hollywood on there for my tastes
catgroove
pfft
no such thing as 'to much old movies'
BrianFreud
:P
ruaok
moin!
BrianFreud
Hi ruoak!
BrianG
i wish there was a channel that played nothing but john hughes 1980s movies all day
yllona
catgroove: absolutely. it's very true that they don't make movies like they used to!
catgroove
ylla: it *is*!
Shepard
moin ruaok
they don't make games like they used to
catgroove
also true
BrianFreud
I miss games like Wasteland
Shepard
but they do make some good music nowadays :P
yllona has never played video games, except the original arcade games
catgroove
moslt music was better before
mostly*
BrianFreud thinks anyone who lists a Britney Spears release ought to be banned :P
yllona
joust was my favorite back in the day
catgroove
BrainzBot: please no hate
hmm
BrianFreud: not that
BrianFreud
lol, jk, sorry
but I would agree most music used to be better... I just can't stand most of the pop on the radio these days
catgroove
in 20 years you'll like the pop they play today
:P
catgroove now likes pop from 20 years ago
even though coukdnt stand it *then*
BrianFreud
maybe... but that's kind of a scary thought... liking some of this fluff :P
ruoak: by the way, props - system was nice and responsive this weekend
yllona
in my not-so-humble-opinion MTV was the beginning of the end. to much emphasis on being photogenic. just think of all the classic band that would never have been signed if MTV had been around. everything from earth, wind & fire to Rush :-D all those bands were far too ugly
BrianFreud
but then you had the bands that PLAYED on the fact they were "ugly"... ZZ Top, for example
yllona
War, creedence, tower of power
catgroove
zz top is not ugly! :o
BrianFreud
right, but that's the angle they took in their videos
ojnkpjg
there's plenty of great music if you don't limit yourself to what's on the radio or what the majors are releasing
catgroove
beauty is in the eye of the beholder you know
yllona
zz top used beards as make-up... kinda like a red-neck KISS
Shepard
ojnkpjg: ding
catgroove
ZZ top ftw
BrianFreud
right, that's the point I was trying to make
NIN, Marilyn Mason, all those
catgroove
those are new
Shepard
catgroove: or in the eye of the beerholder
catgroove
pgfft :P
BrianFreud
NIN's not new... 10 years+, they've earned a spot :)
yllona
BrianFreud: there would be no marilyn manson without alice cooper or bowie :P
catgroove
NIN meh
djce joined the channel
yllona: DING
Shepard
hi dave
BrianFreud
true
djce
hi
catgroove grins
catgroove
that was the exact point i was trying to make :)
BrianFreud
well, you had some of tha before MTV... Partridge Family, The Monkeys, etc
catgroove
they where so campy they where almost fun
:)
BrianFreud wonders if anyone's ever linked in Neil Diamond to the Monkeys...
yllona
BrianFreud: yes, but it was slightly different marketing emphasis. and much better packaging for the pop stuff
BrianFreud
better packaging? compared to the "teen girl pop star" packaging today?
yllona
keep in mind that the very first giant pop hit was written & produced by quincy jones -- lesley gore's "it's my party (and i'll cry if i want to)
