:) that will please luks. it's much better than the old picard
      • pae
        I hope so :)
      • it's good that it has much of the same dependencies as the old picard, so I only need to install pyqt and mutagen
      • mudcrow
theres been a lot of discussion on the new picard at the forums http://forums.musicbrainz.org/ thats the place to look if you have any problems
      • pae
well, I'm not really a big fan of forums
      • I only use them if I really need to

what is the command for removing picard via setup.py?
      • python setup.py uninstall doesn't work
      • Freso
        python setup.py help?
      • pae
        error: invalid command 'help'
      • damn
      • from PyQt4 import QtGui, QtCore
      • ImportError: No module named PyQt4
      • I installed it globally
      • and it doesn't work :(
      • maybe it's because I still have the old picard installed

        Maybe your distro sucks? :p
      • pae
maybe there's a bug in the code? :P
      • HairMetalAddict
PicardQT is a dependency hell on almost every distro, mostly because it requires other packages which aren't part of normal distros, which themselves are dependant on newer versions of things provided by the distro... it's a mess. Hopefully by the time PicardQT hits a stable release these issues won't be issues anymore.
      • pae
well, I only needed to install pyqt
      • HairMetalAddict
        [13:11] <pae> ImportError: No module named PyQt4
      • Apparently that's not your only problem. :-P
      • pae
well, I don't know anything about python
      • HairMetalAddict
        Me neither
      • Enough to get programs working on my system, that's about it. PicardQT being the only exception.
      • pae
the weird thing is that pyqt is installed via make, while other python stuff is installed via setup.py or similar scripts
      • Synchro joined the channel
      • luks
pae: "ImportError: No module named PyQt4" means that pyqt is not installed
      • pae
ok, I'll try installing it another way now
      • maybe I need to install it into another location, via the "-d dir where the PyQt modules will be installed" option
      • ?
      • Freso
pae: Check what version of PyQt you installed?
      • pae
        PyQt-x11-gpl-3.17.1
      • luks
        err
      • Freso
If PyQt 4 is not marked as stable (or whatever) in your release...
      • Well, there you go.
      • luks
        PyQt 4.1 + Qt 4.2
      • pae
        what, I need qt4.2?
      • luks
        yes
      • pae
        damn
      • Freso
pae: What distro are you using?
      • pae
        slackware 11
      • Freso
Right. Don't know a thing about that. :)
      • luks
        Freso: it's basically a DIY distro :)
      • Freso
luks: I know that much. :)
      • pae
they say "learn <insert distro name> and you'll know <insert distro name> but, learn slackware, and you'll know linux"
      • :)
      • luks
I don't want to know any OS
      • I want to use it
      • pae
luks: you want to use slackware?
      • luks
        hell no :)
      • pae
        bbl, lunch
      • luks
pae: anyway, it should be possible to install qt4 without problems even if you already have qt3 and kde

why would picard be stripping album art? I can see it in the unmatched file but when I copy it over I lose it (and the date)
      • srotta
There's an option for cleaning existing tags.
      • ajh
could itunes be storing them as APEv2?
      • no other related option is selected.
      • hrm, yeah it's also adding a bad character to the end of tags, shows up as a box.
      • ok, it's just not showing the cover art.
      • but it is adding what shows up as a high-bit char to the end of tags.
      • back in 15.
      • pae has quit
      • any idea why 0.9 would be adding bad id3 data/padding?
      • luks
it's not bad id3 data, it's a bug in itunes
      • but the next release will have a workaround for that
      • ajh
ok, so fixing them all up isn't needed then?
      • luks
well, if you can wait for the next release and then re-save them all, then no
      • and about the cover art problem, make sure you have set picard to write ID3v2.3 tags
      • ajh
        I don't.
      • the tags are being shown in itunes, just not in Picard.
      • v2.3 takes away utf-8 though.
      • HairMetalAddict has quit
      • luks
        utf-16 is good enough
      • ajh
My issue is how can I reasonably tell if it was Picard or Itunes that added the image?
      • luks
picard shows cover art for albums only if the album has attached an ASIN in MB
      • otherwise it will show the "no cover art" image, but will not remove the original image from tags
      • ajh
ok, so I guess I have yet to see one that has that.
      • luks
is that picard 0.7.2 or 0.9?
      • ajh
        0.9
      • luks
aah, it doesn't download cover art at all by default
      • ajh
clicking the cover art icon brings up a webpage.
      • luks
      • ajh
Oh, so clicking embed isn't enough?
      • Might want to put a note in the Cover Art section of the options or remove the options unless the plugin is in.
      • Kilu has quit
      • once a plugin is loaded do I need to reload picard to activate it?
      • luks
no, but you need to reload the albums
      • Freso
luks, btw. When do you want us to start translating PicardQt?
      • luks
        uhh, hard question...
      • Freso
        :)
      • Well, I'll give you some time to ponder.
      • I'm going to depart for now and join the Bloomsday session.
      • Take care all!
      • Freso has quit
      • ajh
So, this doesn't save any state from one instance to another right?
      • To reload and get the plugins working is going to take another 8 hours?
      • luks
        hmm?
      • 8 hours of what?
      • er, 'for' what?
      • ajh
or do you mean just select all in the right hand box and remove?
      • to add my music folders.
      • luks
I think it doesn't make much sense to load all your music to picard
      • ajh
How else would it group albums from the unknowns?
      • luks
it's usually better to load a few albums, tag them, remove them, load another albums, etc.
      • ajh
Are there plans to allow storing state so you can do the work in more than one pass with the entire thing loaded?
      • luks
there is an open bug report for something like that, but it's very low priority for me
      • picard is a tagger, not a media/library manager
      • dmppanda
dexter looks better. Was the perf issue spotted?
      • ajh
right, but if move edited files you end up breaking your library into 2 parts until it's done.
      • luks
      • ajh
I'd much rather edit everything and then write out all the changes at once.
      • dmppanda
luks: should have checked that. Thx ;)
      • luks
ajh: true, but I'm sure you will quickly lose overview of what's going on that way
      • so it's easier to mistag files...
      • ajh
Hrm, actually it didn't move the files... it just copied them.
      • OK, it did for another saved album.
      • how do you tell that it's trying to get album art?
      • nvm.
      • No way to generate a list of missing songs is there?
      • luks
        nope
      • ajh
having a way to do that would be nice.
      • ugh, so you can't select multiple folders to import?
      • luks
        no
      • ajh
        a bug?
      • mudcrow has quit
      • luks
        "missing feature" :)
      • you can drag them from the file browser on left, if you have many of them
      • ajh
I'd have thought that would have been in the qt file chooser.
