don't get me wrong, i *love* prince, but he still has lot of catching up to do... he's still to inconsistent

*t00 inconsistent, which is a sad thing after 30 year, but true. but his concerts are fantastic now, much improved over the early years.

if you look at the consistency of performers (especially R & B) with 30+ year careers. prince still has a long way to go.

But he's a consummate performer.

back in the day, 12" singles weren't widely distributed to the public. radio DJ's and club owners often got the first (and sometimes only pressings)

the undisputed truth was the in-house band for motown in the '70s. so the producers would write material, arrange it for the undisputed truth, and then demo it for other motown artists

this style of production was a norman whitfield specialty, that's why it wasn't unusual to hear the same song released by multiple motown artists, with different arrangements

yeah, the undisputed truth features chaka kahn's little sister (taka boom) on vocals in the late '70s

and the *huge* voice seems to be a family trait ;)
