trying to remember any seal songs; only one I can think of off the top of my head is Kiss from a Rose

whirlpool, yeah. still overproduced, sounds much better on the "unplugged" albums

on the right hand side it has check marks by all but 2 songs

on the left

whirlpool is also on his demo tape

it has the 2 songs as unmatch

they are the correct names

and correct spellings

why in the hell did it do that

probably the other songs already had mbids from when you tagged in classic.

I'd disagree somewhat - you know what I mean BrianG... the venue can make or break a song, depends on the accoustics of the place and how good the audience is...

but whirlpool is a very good song, to your point. but he seems to get lost on the stage in a large venue

I think that's true for most bands though - the only ones who really seem to sound better in huge venues are the ones who're simply too loud for anything smaller

no, i wasn't hip to seal until a friend gave me a bootleg copy of his demo tape, and i was out of college by then IIRC

some performers are just beeter in smaller venues. good exaples: carole king and joni mitchell

soome performers are better in no venues

it takes a huge amount of charisma to carry a crowd of 25-50,00 people

The only non-"loud rock" artist I can think of who, imho, could handle a huge venue as well as a smaller one is Paul Simon

i'd never go to a james taylor or paul simon stadium gig either -- it would be a waste

you'd lose the intimacy, but I'm thinking of his Johannesberg show or the Central Park show - he was just as good a performer in those as anywhere smaller

paul imon was only good ina stadium with lots of backing talent -- ie ladysmith black mambazo.

i was going to see wu tang in VT in april but it got canceled yesterday :(

also talking heads were only good in a large venue when they were touring (and being backed by) Funkadelic

well, that's probably it - perhaps for a non loud rock artist to pull off a stadium, it can't be the same small-venue-solo-accoustic artist performing

very few bands can outperform Funkadelic

I'd consider, say, anything larger than the 9:30 club

it's a club, of course it's "small"

every time I went I got lucky and was able to get right to the stage; great place to see a show

it's about 1200-1500 heads even when jam-packed (also illegal) :)

it's slightly larger than what you remember (after the renovation)

much better place to see a show though than the capital ballroom - the speakers there are WAY too loud, and that venue's way too "loud" anyhow

keep in mid that the kennedy center itself is less than 3000 seats

yep. actually, tried to boot that one - the show was so loud, even with my mics as low as I could set them, it's just a wall of maxed sound on the tape

meh, if it's loud enough that you're bothering with earplugs, imho, there's too much noise and too little fine detail to worry about trying to hear it more clearly anyhow

Poe at the 9:30 club, standing front row center without earplugs, hearing was fine. Foo Fighters at the CB standing in the back of the room, couldn't hear for a week. I think some groups just tend to turn the speakers to stadium volume no matter the venue size, others actually pay attention.

BrianFreud: true. i went to a funkadelic show in a club in san Francisco that was so loud, that i could hear the music clearly in the backoffice two floors away from the club. that show was insanely loud. just insane

these days I try to just avoid even the standard venue shows... I'd much rather hit a club or one of the tiny Fells Point-sized venues, where attendance is in the 50-300 range, and they don't feel much need for speakers at all

BrianG: i attended a couple of 125K+ shows back in the day... that was the 70s tho -- back when festival seating was still encouraged at stadium shows

actually the biggest i can remember, without thinking really hard was Prince/George Thorogood/J Geils band /Rolling Stones in 1981 or 1982

and yes, the audience was completely out of control, the promoter actually shut the show down for a couple of hours

ugh i hate when we have mroe than 2 bands on a bill at work

must have been fun though... When I was in Cali, I used to go down to the Caning Club every Friday and Sat - typically 6 or 8 bands on the bill, each only like a 15 minute set - just long enough to be sick of them if they sucked, just right for most good punk bands.

Have a request for you... Any chance a status indicator would be possible within Picard? Aval0n mentioned it as essentially the make or break for him when I was trying to help him switch from classic earlier, and I myself would find it helpful when I'm working on things like puid generation/attachment as a tag (for files for releases not yet in MB, when I have nothing else to scan, I scan them ahead of time, to already later h

Wouldn't have to be fancy, just something like "total files to be saved: 100 / total files left to be saved: 43" down in the status area

not very likely this will happen any soon, at the moment picard doesn't know which files are 'to be saved', which files are 'to be scaned', etc.
