FF3 looks really good right now
      • FauxFaux wants an Opera 9.5 stableish release. :(
      • ruaok
        that's great to hear!
      • warp
i'm missing some features in safari, which makes it unusable for me. though i do test personal projects in it.
      • w33d5 joined the channel
      • BrianFreud: http://320x200.org/post.py/2008/quaristice.txt is probably very b0rk in any IE.
      • w33d5
is anyone running their own local version of the musicbrainz server?
      • BrianFreud
yeah, I'd love to upgrade FF, but I do way too much with GM... GM added FF3 support a month and a half ago, but it's still too buggy to use for dev
      • FauxFaux
w33d5: Only everyone who's active in the channel right now.
      • BrianFreud needs to upgrade his someday :P
      • w33d5
        heh look at that
      • i have a list of 12000 files to clean up
      • BrianFreud
still have the pre-October version installed, lol
      • 12k? that's nothing :D
      • w33d5
is there a significant speed boost using a local copy?
      • FauxFaux
        warp: Haha.
      • ruaok
w33d5: are you using PUIDs? Or just metadata lookups?
      • w33d5
        mneta
      • some have trms
      • ruaok
        you
      • you'd need to install the lucene search server.
      • as well.
      • read: lots or work. :)
      • *of
      • FauxFaux
      • w33d5
right now i'm using jaikoz which is a bit fustrating
      • BrianFreud
        warp: IE 6 sorta renders it - it renders up til this, then dies: <object class="thumbnail" alt="Quaristice" title="Quaristice" type="image/svg+xml" data="http://320x200.org/2008/quaristice.32...; width="320" height="200" />
      • warp
        FauxFaux: lol
      • BrianFreud: how surprising :)
      • w33d5
and the java is slow as balls
      • FauxFaux
warp: You massively lose my definition of a site that decays properly. =p
      • FauxFaux laughs at w33d5.
      • BrianFreud applauds that concept
      • w33d5
any sugguestions on linux enabled mass taggers
      • ruaok
w33d5: use picard. I tagged 10k reasonably well tagged files in 3 hours.
      • w33d5
        aside from picard
      • ruaok
        have you tried 0.9.0?
      • w33d5
        all the dragging is ridiculous
      • maybe not
      • its gets unbearable when there are 200 albums listed below and you can see where you're dragging
      • ruaok
well, I garantee you that you can tag your files faster with picard than trying to install all teh MB server.
      • warp
FauxFaux: the site is mainly intended for some svg experiments, i didn't see the point in testing on IE.
      • w33d5
        point taken
      • BrianFreud
all the dragging? I'd much rather have a tagger that doesn't make assumptions... Every other tagger I've tried, it tags all sorts of bork in, because they try to "guess" WAY too much.
      • warp
      • w33d5
is there much setup needed after dl'g the vmware image?
      • FauxFaux
warp: Technically you can get svg support in IE.
      • ruaok
w33d5: you're not supposed to add all 12k files to picard at once.
      • BrianFreud
warp: amazingly, that actually renders 100% correctly in IE 6
      • ruaok
w33d5: forget it. the vmware image is half of the solution.
      • w33d5
        <homer> DOH! </homer>
      • ok so i'll do a run with picard and see how iut goes
      • warp
FauxFaux: i know, but needs plugins and HASSLE
      • w33d5
        thanks BF!
      • yllona joined the channel
      • BrianFreud: any thoughts on stability getting it from the repository vs rolling a fresh copy from the source?
      • sorry that was for ruaok
      • BrianFreud is perhaps the worst one in here to ask :D
      • f'ng hilarious
      • ruaok
0.9.0 is stable and bzr has nothting newer
      • BrianFreud
ruaok: I'm pretty sure the bzr has a dev 0.9.1
      • ruaok
        dev != stable
      • w33d5
        k
      • danke ---- PROST!
      • ruaok
        bitte, gern geschehen. :)
      • petros
Can I get som votes on this so i can get my files correctly tagged? Pretty please with sugary genitaljobs om top: http://musicbrainz.org/show/edit/?editid=8494912
      • FauxFaux
        ..genitaljobs?
      • petros
Works for both sexes I hope ;)
      • FauxFaux disagrees, but not enough to vote no. o/
      • zoke
what do I do again if the puid doesn't exist for my track ?
      • do I need to use the genpuid tool ?
      • petros
Oh, I've tested the discussion in here before. Seems the opinion was that I was a bonus disc. :)
      • BrianFreud
I kind of disagree too - it's an open point in the guidelines, no guideline expressly says to remove it. (note http://wiki.musicbrainz.org/ExtraTitleInformati... and http://wiki.musicbrainz.org/ReleaseTitle )
      • warp
        petros: what's on the spine?
      • FauxFaux
Having said that, it does say "box set".
      • BrianFreud
"Deluxe Edition" is pretty predominant on the liner...
      • luks
BrianFreud: then we need disc 1 of that Deluxe Edition
      • BrianFreud
well, the text on the liner reads "2CD Set" - not something like "with bonus disc"
      • petros
        warp: "This is hardcore"
      • FauxFaux
        I'm comming hardcore.
      • petros
luks: disc 1 is the "ordinary" edition of "This is hardcore"
      • luks
        petros: I know
      • petros
disc 2/bonus is be-sides,demos and shit.
      • BrianFreud
per box set style, if it's a 2 CD set, then the disc 1 that's otherwise identical ought to be also listed in the DE version - that your point luks?
      • luks
        yes
      • but: "(disc 2)" needs "(disc 1)"
      • BrianFreud
        agreed
      • luks
"(bonus disc)" needs just the regular album
      • BrianFreud
agreed. To me, this just doesn't look like a "bonus disc" situation where we can use that out :)
      • petros
So when is it a bonus cd and when is it a seperate edition?
      • Last time people went the other way, now you're swinging back to my original impression.
      • BrianFreud
The definition of BonusDisc doesn't really specify, but my own sense is that it's only a bonus disc if it's actually listed on the CD or liner as a bonus disc
      • petros
So these "Deluxe Editions" should be listed such, with seperate entries even if disc 1 matches the original album?
      • luks
"A bonus disc is a disc of material that is considered extra to the Release. It is used to show the difference between true multi-disc releases (eg, The Beatles - The White Album [WWW] (disc 1) & [WWW] (disc 2)), and normal releases augmented by bonus tracks (eg, The Fall - [WWW] Hex Enduction Hour & [WWW] Hex Enduction Hour (bonus disc))." seems whice clear to me
      • warp
petros: sometimes. it mostly depends on how it's labelled on the release IMO.
      • luks
        er
      • s/whice/quite/
      • sometimes I wonder how I'm able to produce such "typos"
      • BrianFreud
yeah, the discussion by Gecks and drsaunde seems like they wanted to change from my type of definiton of a bonus disc, such that it would also cover this type of situation.
      • petros
Release is labeled by albumtitle. But in a plastic cover (as per picture) that states it's a "deluxe edition"
      • BrianFreud
While I'm all for removing dupes, personally, I think that extends the concept too far.
      • warp
petros: yes, i think of the cover as similar to japanese OBI's. not part of the release itself.
      • s/cover/plastic cover/
      • petros
Anyways I've had my say. I'll let the verdict be up to you :)
      • Mirrakor
Hm.. should I get an iPod nano video? :D
      • FauxFaux
        No!
      • zoke
Mirrakor I find the screen is too small
      • Mirrakor
hm... I just had one over the last night - found it rather comfortable - but no in-depth-experience
      • zoke
      • uh oh
      • should the first one be deleted ?
      • It was just imported from FreeDB, nothing else done to it
      • ruaok
        :-)
      • BrianFreud
        :)
      • yllona
:) let's hope certain people apply FauxFaux *cough*, aCiD2 *ahem*
      • cooperaa too.
      • ruaok 's right foot will ensure that aCiD2 participates
      • aCiD2
        haha
      • woohoo!
      • FauxFaux isn't a student anymore, I'm free!
      • I can shoot my "GSoC ideas" email to the list then later :)
      • yllona
oh, FauxFaux i missed that, when did you graduate?
      • FauxFaux
        The coming July.
      • yllona
ah. yes, the wonky UK schedule.
      • warp
        wonky?
      • petros
"Sumer of coding is a cumin' in"
      • stochasticism joined the channel
      • FauxFaux
Yeah, wonky? Doesn't nearly everywhere do september->september academic yearS?
      • aCiD2
Everything in the UK is wonky
      • yllona
warp: yes, i can never remember their exam schedule, then there's the other stuff req'd
      • w33d5 has quit
      • FauxFaux
        Especially that crazy CatCat.
      • yllona
        Thus, july -- not may/june
      • FauxFaux
The graduation ceremony isn't until early august iirc. :p
      • yllona
        FauxFaux: US is september->June
      • FauxFaux
        Enough holiday, eh. ¬_¬
      • Our term technically finishes on the 27th of June this year, so, I suppose it's september to june.
      • yllona
except for certain programs that are year-round and require apprenticeships/work-study dduring the summer
      • FauxFaux
*October to June, started on the first.
      • yllona
graduate school in the US is typically considered year-round, as you need to write/publish continually
      • FauxFaux: well congratulations anyway :)
      • BrianFreud
technically, if you don't actually get the degree until Aug, couldn't you stil be a student for the summer? :D
      • FauxFaux
        You're assuming I'm going to pass. =p
      • yllona
        you'll pass, be positive
      • aCiD2
        What's your course Faux?
      • FauxFaux
        Straight CS (with intercalated year).
      • aCiD2
        ah
      • yllona suggests aCiD2 keep the music minor ;)
      • I have a music minor? :P
      • yllona
        no that's cooperaa sorry
