it's like buying the cds all over again picking fun stuff from the unsorted dir :)
      • navap
        heh
      • warp
Munger: oh, in general I despise compilations, so I have very little of those.
      • Munger
warp, 700 gigs here. Can you blame me for trying larger chunks?
      • warp doesn't like taking tracks out of context.
      • I'm a DJ as well. I can't avoid compilations. I buy DVDs full of them
      • navap
Munger: Unless you're tagging without checking each and every album, whether you add 5 albums, or 50 albums into Picard, you will go through them at the same speed.
      • warp
Munger: i have about 300gb, of which about half is properly tagged with picard now.
      • Munger
navap, A large percentage of the tracks are well tagged. If I drag on say, 50 albums, I can see right away which ones it got right and procede. When It throws up a lot of incosistencies, I rewind, remove the ones I just added and do them again in smaller chunks
      • I dropped on nearly 100 albums last night and it got the lot of them. It depends really on when I first tagged that particular batch. Over the years I got more organised. It's the old stuff that's a mess
      • The vinyl rips are a nightmare
      • Took years to rip them as well. On my third turntable. They keep wearing out
      • warp
        o_O
      • replacing the needle was usually enough for me :)
      • although on my current cheap 2nd hand turntable the thing which makes it turn off at the end of the record got broken.
      • Munger
No quick way of ripping vinyls. Even scanning the covers is a chore
      • Muz wonders where Munger is located.
      • Rickmansworth, UK
      • warp
but i just added an on/off switch to fix that :)
      • Muz
        Ah, okay. :)
      • Munger
I am not sure who to leave my music collection to in my will. I don't think the kids will appreciate it
      • They'll just send it off to oxfam
      • nikkeee
        tsk tsk...
      • Muz
They could at least eBay it for the munny. ¬_¬
      • Munger
Seriously, there is a lot here. Even 78s
      • nikkeee
        exactly :P
      • Muz wants to run home from work and plug in his new speakers
      • Munger
The physical discs are all beautifully catalogued on a card index system. I can retrieve anything in a minute or two. I just wish computers were that efficient :-)
      • warp wants to run home from work and get the new sennheiser earthingies which need replacing on his HD-570
      • Muz
Munger: they can. You just need better hardware. :p
      • and a better designed DB.
      • Munger
I bought one of those Sony Home Theatre thingies yesterday. Everything is wired into that
      • errr. Samsung
      • warp would like that too.
      • warp
but not for music, just for gaming.
      • Muz
        It's MBFS time!
      • warp plays music in a different room anyway.
      • Munger
The best thing is controlling iTunes from the iPhone. I'm 20 feet away from the mac now and just use the phone as a remote
      • Muz used to run Web UIs on most of his media software and then use his N770's browser, or his laptop, to control stuff. I got lazy and just set up global hot keys and got a pocket wireless keyboard.
      • Muz
I want walk about the flat with my wireless headphones on and control the music from wherever. <3
      • Sargun has quit
      • Munger
I would rather be using the mac laptop, but the screen broke and I can only see what I'm doing on it by plugging it into the TV and looking over my shoulder, or using the phone as a remote
      • Muz
        s/want/can/
      • Munger
That's nice. Unfortunately I'm deaf in one ear and headphones seem to make me dizzy. Something to do with ears acting as balance organs I think
      • I put them on and walk into doors frames
      • Muz
        :/
      • Munger
        You in the UK muz?
      • Muz
        Munger: yeah, London.
      • nikkeee
at least you can take them off and not walk into door frames, I guess :P
      • Munger
I was in Sainsburys this morning, and they are flogging a bundled 32" HD TV w/Freesat HD, an ipod docking station with 300W 2.1 speakers (the tall pointy ones) - for 349 quid
      • Grundig I think
      • Muz
Oh god, I was so tempted to spash out on a 37" TV last night.
      • There's a reason why I really shou;ldn't be paid as much as I am, and left to my own devices.
      • FauxFaux
        Fit it above your monitors?
      • nikkeee
what's money for if not for spending?
      • Muz
        nikkeee: HOARDING.
      • Munger
I don't yet have HD. Somebody promised to leave me their 42" plasma when they moved to Spain. They forgot and gave it to somebody else. By that time I had spent the dosh I had set aside to buy one
      • nikkeee
        you can hoard anything
      • you can't spend anything!
      • Muz
FauxFaux: I was thinking that, but I can't really drill into the wall for a VESA mount. :(
      • And there's nowhere else in my room that I could put it and be able to see it from bed.
      • Nor is there anywhere I can place it near my existing monitors and use it as another display.
      • Anyhow, I need to stop buying shinies. Spent more than enough in the past 2 months
      • Munger
I have this 52" Sylvania crt beast. It's only 5" thick and the picture isn't bad, but it's poor by today's standards. I found it lying around in an office after the company who makes them for OEM (Funai) moved to a new site
      • Muz
        Nice.
      • Munger
They obviosly left it because it's basically old junk with 110v power supply. I opened it up and found the switch to run it on 240v
      • Not actually a TV, no tuner, but who needs a tuner when you have a Sky box
      • OK. Please change the colour of the release title when it has unsaved items. I nearly missed that one :-)
      • Muz
Heh, I just use a TV card in my desktop, and that, and my Xbox are both plugged right into my 24" for watchin.

How do I do an advanced search. I'm looking for a track 'Sixteen Tons', either by CCS or Alexis Korner & CCS, but it must not be from a compilation
      • I actually know which album it originally came from, but I'm just trying to harden up search parameters for a script here

      • Muz
Stupid Linux user in "gets butthurt and misunderstands how things work" shocker.

"That is one of the reasons I swtiched to GNU OS in the first palce. Please unbrake Sound Juicer!" is great
      • LotR
outsidecontext: is that the same guy as the sound-juicer bug?
      • nikkeee
Munger: that link was for you
      • outsidecontext
yes, it's about exactly that :) i just ran accross it by accident while reading something else

Munger: this one only matches one track (which makes it redirect, it's the same query but with AND between the three parts) - http://musicbrainz.org/search/textsearch.html?q...
      • there's more info about what's available to search with here: http://wiki.musicbrainz.org/TextSearchSyntax
      • MClemo
heh, fun running queries on my database snapshot. There are 7 artists with more than 10 releases with the same name :D

nikkeee, OK. Thanks. It was the search syntax I was unsure about. That cleared it up.
      • nikkeee
        good :)
      • Munger
It's just that the *original* release was by CCS. The version I have here was from the same album but later released under 'Alexix Korner & CCS'. I'll add that as another release. Is there a way to link the two?
      • nikkeee
        there's an earliest-release-of relationship
      • Munger sometimes wonders whetre to burn his music collection and just listen to the radio. Would be much easier
      • navap
But then you can't put a song on repeat and listen to it for 4 hours. :p
      • Munger
OK. I'll investigate that properly before I do the wrong thing. I have a lot of stuff that falls into that category
      • navap, If I want to listen to the same thing over and over, I'd get a wife. Oh, hang on. I have one already
      • navap
        heh
      • Munger
By the way, when I get this little lot properly tagged, you all get a login to grab anything you like
      • I have an rsync server running, so you could get it that way

Query in SelectSingleRowHash returned more than one row at /home/httpd/musicbrainz/mb_server/cgi-bin/Sql.pm line 351, <GEN7> line 73.

      • navap

      • Dunno, ask the server
      • Muz
        Bleh.
      • navap
I added a URL AR that already existed for that release.
      • (It was a test)
      • Muz
I guess there isn't a unique constraint on the DB then?
      • Muz shrugs
      • navap
Usually if the URL exists the edit goes through and only one url is shown on the release page, not two.
      • This tome I got both to show.
      • Muz
There should so be a unique constraint on the DB by the sounds of it.
      • That and pre-insert verification by the libs.
      • navap has no idea what that really means :p
      • navap
Well I can guess. I think its the fact that I moved the URL using an edit relationship, thats how two URL's now show up. http://musicbrainz.org/show/edit/?editid=10164740
      • Normally, the system would check and if the URL already exists the edit just gets silently dismissed.
      • Muz
        Which? the id?
      • navap
        No the id :p
      • It's not the release, url, or the artist. So what's it for?
      • Muz
        id | artist | name | gid | modpending | attributes | page | language | script | modpending_lang | quality | modpending_qual
