would anyone be able to tell me which db dump, if any, contains the folksonomy tag information (tag, tag_relation, etc)?

thanks a lot. either that or the 'genres' of an artist. i'd like to query for an artist based on tags or genres

we don't have genres. to subjective for a large scale.

this might be addressed somewhere in the doc, but i couldn't find it: is there any "best" way to ensure you don't query the server more than once a second? (using python)
ruaok
a general solution is to make a thread that handles calling the server. you feed requests to the thread via queue...
I believe we distinguish between calls to different webservices
ruaok
yeah, looks great.
Rivid31: copy their stuff.
alastairp
heh
ruaok will in the future.
our @memofy decorator is sexy
Rivid31
yeah that looks good, thanks alastair!
alastairp
checks if that exact request has been done before and just returns the cached result
awesome for testing

'scuse me, my MP3 album names keep getting trimmed down to 30 letters. Is there any way I can correct this? I'm not sure if it's MusicBrainz Picard causing it or if it's Winamp or Zune software.
MrEIso
sounds like you're only using ID3v1 tags, rather than ID3v2 tags somewhere
Indephysis
I'll attempt opening it with all of the involved programs
futilius has quit
aha, fixed it. can I disable Picard adding ID3v1 tags and remove all ID3v1 tags from my entire collection, or is that ill-advised?
navap
I believe it's very ill-advised for anyone's music collection to contain ID3v1 tags.
If you go through the options menu for Picard, you can disable it from writing v1 tags, as for removing v1 tags I would probably use something like Mp3tag to do it.
You can set it to read/write only ID3v1 tags, select all, and click remove.
Of course, I would test that first, to make sure you have the settings right.
Indephysis
aha, got it
Oh, yay, Zune software can't use anything but a specific type

morning all
where would I find the picard log file in windows vista?
FauxFaux
%appdata%\musicbrainz\picard iirc.
Maybe in one of the local/roaming dirs. Not at a vista machine atm. :(
mudcrow
thanks, will look
Muz
I thought Picard did it wrong and spaffed out to the directory in which it was installed.
If it's changed, that's new.
mudcrow
can't find any log

nevermind, gotta go do the W word, bye

Muz
Fwiw, there's a "View Log" option under the Help menu, no idea what file it tries reading though.
Similarly, I think Picard only ever writes to the log when there's an issue.
MightyJay
could it be that it isn't actually creating a log on Vista since it doesn't run in admin mode, so it has no write permission on its program folder?
Muz runs it as an admin.
I don't, but I can't find no log either (though it has exited multiple times with a message saying an error occured and I should check the log)
GoCatMachine
lol swine flu
Muz
Clearly time to just run it in gdb and have it dump backtraces. ¬_¬
outsidecontext
MightyJay: run it from the command line to see its output. you can start it with "--debug" to see more messages on waht picard is doing
MightyJay: ah,on windows. i think it won't output anything on the console there, sorry
MightyJay
oh, no problem... I was just trying to explain why a log might be missing on Vista (since mudcrow asked it)

outsidecontext
i don't think it does write a log file anymore. but i'm not sure, i'll have to check that
question: with the soon to come release groups, is it still necessary (desirable) to have "is the earliest/a later release of" relationships between two releases?

Note to self: Don't use wobbly windows with Synergy, VirtualBox windows or in fact, just don't use them at all.

I just like my menus to bounce out :)
Muz
That's not wobbly windows, that's just your menu effect. ¬_¬

Menu = window
Muz
Sigh.
aCiD2
And it uses wobbly windows to do it, so I dunno what you're arguing :P
anyway, to sainsburys!

I'm not arguing a thing, that may be why you don't know what I'm arguing. :p
