but we have this problem of search queries and whether or not they contain query syntax.

Here is what I am thinking:

1. Have the default search accept no lucene query syntax.

2. Create an advanced search that allows people to use query syntax.

I like that

the goal is to make 1. as smart as possible for as many people as possible.
