Does calculating the trm with libmusicbrainz always need to access the relatable server?

In other words: Is there a way to get a (not necessarily unique) signature without network access? E.g. just to compare local files?

what you can get without network access is an acoustic fingerprint

but no IDs, like TRM or PUID

I just wanted to let wolfie know that it looks as if Freedb has now gone completely belly up http://www.freedb.org/

wolfie was discussing with ruaok the possibility of MusicBrainz providing information to Collectorz.com

yeah, we've been watching the freedb issue over the weekend

Collectorz com are pointing people to http://www.freedb2.org/ which is rubbish

the developer of freedb2 is part of the reason why freedb is closing!

just checked album list for Chris Rea (my favourite artist) and it is pathetic

I think the only sensible solution would be for Collectorz.com to use MB

there is no guarentee that freedb2 will remain free

That is what wolfie and I thought, and we had a word with rob a couple of months ago, but I don't know whether he has done anything about it
