right, and it doesn't seem to matter if you have twenty tabs open, not in mb, or are.
      • I just don't notice it normally because I think I'm so much happier with it than with IE.
      • yllona joined the channel
      • I'll have to try that freemem thing again. (or whatever it was, Most dont usualy work well
      • geh, okay, there's a lack of apostrophe for Joan. ;)
      • Nyght was fixing that!
      • teleGUISE
I also am not sure what we see is "exactly" leakage either.. though obviously it appears to be.. however just cuz Task Manager shows memory usage up one can't "say" that it's leaking. (though again in this case it seems it is) FF could also reserve some/that memory after it was needed but could/might allow it to free up when not needed
      • yllona
FF leak badly enough on OS X that it can become unuseable for complex tasks
      • teleGUISE
hmmm.. even on OS X.. wow
      • Nyght
I don't believe so, because when you go down to a single page, no java, it should free up.
      • nikki_
        it's worst on osx
      • best on windows ime.
      • teleGUISE
i would have thought things were sloppy on one platform.. seems kind of odd that it was multi... that would seem to imply "really" bad coding practices.. Which is kind of scary if true
      • Nyght
true, especially on mac. I give them a hard time, but it's just teasing. Their coding is generally tighter and such
      • yllona
there are deer park versions that have been improved for OS X , but it's just safer for me to use Safari or Camino for daily tasks. I have FF completely freeze my machine. it can use all residual memeory if you don't keep an eye on it.
      • zorglu1 has left the channel
      • and keeping the process manager or a term window open just for one app, is ridiculous
      • teleGUISE
also you would think from what Im aware Mac OSX doesnt have the issues with "dependency" files like XP does leaving a bad library file to be partly the blame.. (though i guess every OS does at some point)
      • ruaok
        bah. allergies suck!
      • ruaok is away: allergies!
      • yllona
teleGUISE: i haven't bothered to expend teh energy to track down the specific FF issue(s) on OS X. but it's well-known probelm. no other application i use on OS X has this kind of mem leak.
      • jozuph has quit
      • MBChatLogger
        windows == pure evil
      • teleGUISE
nyght: but even Windozer by design doesn't immediately free up memory/resources when through... it keeps them "for the off chance" it might need them again and is "supposed" to free them if something else needs them
      • lauri
i find it telling that when apple hired away a dozen mozilla developers to write them a browser, they chose to use kde's khtml to do it with, even though that meant rewriting all the GUI code
      • and not the very mozilla codebase those very same people had just spent several years immersed in (and some of them still work on it on the side)
      • Nyght
True, windows is garbage, no one disputes that. :D (Thankfully, I think I would gag! )
      • yllona
it's possible that teh FF developers are highly competent *nix coders, but they certainly don't understand the nuances of OS X. some of teh stuff they do is unnecessary in OS X.
      • lauri
you'll be able to use that on windows soon enough
      • yllona: there's a lot of that, there is also a lot of "my turf, no you cant submit a patch" crap and politics
      • Nyght
Lauri, the five disc set is done. There was some mistakes, and thank you for your offer. If you happen (or your kids) on any of the others, I will say thank you in advance to getting those liners as well. :D
      • yllona
lauri yes. i agree. it's the "too many cooks in the kitchen" paradigm, or even closer "too many chiefs and not enough indians"
      • lauri
it is very difficult to get fixes into large parts of that codebase, and it shows in the results, imho (and they dont like _us_ at all, dirk mueller, who practically wrote half of khtml himself, took two _years_ to get a commit account in mozilla cvs)
      • teleGUISE
nyght: sad thing is win xp could be a decent OS (didnt say great) being it finally was designed around semi standard practices.. it's just they get Microcrapisided
      • lauri
and he still has to have every patch approved
      • Nyght muses if two equals signs cancel each other out like a double negative (2:32:33 PM) MBChatLogger: windows == pure evil
      • heh, no, i am a programmer, = is an assignment, == means "equals"
      • i cant help it :(
      • yalaforge found using flash solves most of FFs memory leak problems
      • yalaforge
it crashes every two minutes => mem leaks gone
      • Nyght
I agree teleGUISE, they could get rid of half the bloatware (most people don't even use) and tighten up the coding and I imagine it would be great
      • yllona
        yala: :)
      • lauri
i am just not used to talking to actual humans on irc, only geeks :)
      • (or ooh, it wasnt even me who did it that time, hahah)
      • Nyght
thank you lauri for your programmers input. ;)
      • LOL yalaforge
      • I'm not 'human" I'm a geek, just not as geekish as everyone else here.
      • yllona
and there are diffrent varieties of geek, too. not just technical types.
      • teleGUISE
yeah the == equal was fun when I started to learn C coming from machine code & basic ... Equal was equal and 'not' was not
      • yllona
most good jazz musicians are hardcore geeks, just not about technology. tho several are technology geeks too.
      • yalaforge found out there are several groups of non-tech geeks
      • yalaforge
        role playing people, for example
      • yllona
i'd say at this point that Nyght has become a full-blown disney geek :P
      • lauri
nyght: i am always doing that on other channels and having to explain (also, s/typo/correction/, and other dumb shorthand like that)
      • when someone comments, i just assume it was me who isnt making any sense :)
      • Nyght guilty of being a role playing geek as well
      • tro has quit
      • Nyght
yllona: whimpers yeah.. factoids no one needs to know ;)
      • lauri
nyght: daughters found two of the discs, sans covers, and the box
      • Nyght
It took me a bit of time for the s/typo/correction, but I got it without explanation.
      • yalaforge
Nyght: don't forget the trailing slash :-)
      • Nyght
I tend to prefer my typo=typofix but, it'll have to change to typo = = typofix
      • ;)
      • yllona
except young children. i have a god-daughter that can tell you anything you've ever wanted to know about shrek or the little mermaid (and then some) :-D
      • lauri
heh, yeah, nothing like getting your psuedo-sed corrected by pedants
      • Nyght
        lauri ;>/
      • yalaforge
lauri: originally it was an ed command :-P
      • lauri
yllona: i expect she would get along just _fine_ with my youngest
      • Nyght
ah, yes, the code might crash. :D
      • yalaforge
ed would look at it and say '?'.
      • Nyght
yllona: thanks... :) but, no thansk!
      • :D
      • lauri
yalaforge: yes, but ed would look at practically everything and say '?
      • '
      • teleGUISE ponders the thought of a what a real hard core "Disney geek" would be .. do they dress like Dwarves, cast spells like Witches walk like a Duck, talk like a Mouse and sing like an Elf ?
      • yalaforge
lauri: no, it's not quite that bad :-)
      • lauri
(i managed to mostly avoid that, i am also proud of making this year 18 years working in IT and only knowing two vi commands, and both of them are how to quit it)
      • yalaforge likes using ed from time to time, it's like a stripped down ex
      • yalaforge
        tsk, tsk.
      • lauri
also, "hit esc until it beeps, then you can type"
      • Nyght
they of course talk like a duck and at least half of the other disney characters. to a perfection. They speak dwarven, and princess and they wear jimminy cricket glasses teleGUISE
      • yalaforge grins
      • lauri
unless some twit has turned the bell off in the terminal, then i am done for
      • nikki_
        I feel like ed sometimes...
      • yalaforge
there's nothing worse than beeping terminals ...
      • nikki_ aaaaalways turns the beep off
      • nikki_: :-)
      • nikki_
because I can't hear it anyway
      • lauri
yes there is, non beeping ones when i am trying to use vi
      • tro joined the channel
      • yalaforge uses the visual bells (flashing terminal) everywhere
      • nechto13 joined the channel
      • yalaforge
don't get me to rant about people here at the uni. don't know a thing about unix, and guess what you can hear all the time?
      • lauri
        heh
      • yalaforge
beep, beep, beep from dozends of computers at the same time!
      • s/d//
      • nechto13
        hello everyone
      • does the volumenumberstyle guideline still apply to russian albums? obiously the word volume is in russian
      • yalaforge
        argh. deleted the wrong 'd'
      • Nyght
why would it change for Russian? Only oriental gets special circumstances. ;)
      • lauri
        heh
      • Nyght
        good noon nechto13
      • nikki_
        Nyght: just japanese
      • teleGUISE
Oh speaking of volume.... just received a mail from someone whom was trying to change all the "Volume" to "vol" in a certain (non) english series
      • nikki_
yalaforge: I'll lend you my ears then ;)
      • Shepard
        hi nechto13
      • Nyght
        Oh, my bad... s/oriental/Japanese/
      • teleGUISE
nyght the guideline does say "Volumen" is allowed
      • Nyght
        there fixed. ;)
      • yalaforge is known as the helpful guy who knows the 'xset -b' command ;-)
      • well yeah, but same layout, right?
      • nechto13
Nyght: most of russia is in asia ;) but what about if the album title ends with a punctuation sigh? i assume i don't put a comma after it
      • nikki_ hopes she doesn't end up being the helpful girl who knows the 'xset -b' command...
      • teleGUISE
use the swedish conventions in hte title, as we do not use as in english. Only large cap. on first in sentenses, also on releases of music.
      • And becouse it is a swedish release, I use the term "volym" instead of "Volume". Also according to the style guide, if I understod it correctly.
      • yalaforge
nikki_: you can be the helpful girl who knows CTRL-Q ;-)
      • nikki_
        haha
      • teleGUISE
I gather "volym" is acceptable then, correct?
      • nikki_
or the helpful girl who knows both!!
      • lauri
hum, i change those to volume when i import them
      • i also change "med" to "feat" and other stuff like that
      • never had anyone complain...
      • Nyght leaves it to the language experts all jumping in
      • Nyght goes to her email, that's mainly modnotes
      • nikki_
I whistle innocently and go back to writing ruby
      • teleGUISE
hmmm.. well being it's ok for Spanish it should be ok for Swedish..
      • yalaforge
        oh, interesting stuff?
      • lauri
lol, i am asking, in case i have been doing it wrong all this time
      • cos i'll have a whole load of albums to go change if thats the case
      • nechto13
alright, then if the album title ends with a punctuation sign, i don't put a comma after it, right?
      • teleGUISE
      • nikki_
        yalaforge: was that to me?
      • yalaforge
        nikki_: yup
      • nikki_
        hmm... interesting enough!
      • yalaforge
        MB related?
      • nikki_
        nope!
      • teleGUISE
        nechto13: correct no you don't
      • yalaforge
        nikki_: ok :-)
      • nechto13
        thanks teleGUISE
      • teleGUISE
anyone know what "Inledning (sketch/musik)" is?? and should it retain the forward slash?
      • lauri
inledning == lead in, sketch == sketch, musik == music
      • ok, that was very literal, it is "introduction" i suppose
      • teleGUISE
in simple english (intro) :) ?
      • lauri
        sketch as in comedy sketch
      • teleGUISE
hee... i gues so... so then the forward slash probably should be removed from the edit it seems
      • lauri
eddie meduza is a comedy artist, sort of like.... hmmm
      • like some comedian who sings funny songs :)
      • weird al if he did occasional funny bits in between the songs
