audio cd ripping with full MB metadata

I tried the MB support of CDex too, it didn't get a match for a CD that contained a data track :(

and doesn't set MB IDs

well with bmpx+HAL it's kinda simple

you first start out with an UI like this:

then you can insert a CD into any drive

because HAL will tell it which device file it is

so you basically just insert it, it finds the release id, uses the xmlws to retrieve the release metadata, displays it, rips the tracks and tags them with the full set of musicbrainz metadata

Amblin-: not yet, we're working, or we _were_ working on a windows port, but it's rather complicated since we're using gstreamer, so we didn't pursue it further for now

eventually there will be but not right now

mind you this is just a part of an entirely different app which is basically a media player, the ripping funcionality is just built in

(same as soulseek downloads LOL)

slsk just keeps crashing for me so I stopped using it :(

Actually, I need some opinions.

In the Japanese language, there isn't an precedent for uppercase and lowercase letters.

Because of this, track names converted from Japanese are usually going to be all uppercase or all lowercase.

Now, since MB is primarly an English website, does it make sense to treat track names with proper grammatical rules, unless the author of the song has said personally that the track name is supposed to be grammatically incorrect when converted to English?

Instead of "what's it for?", the track name should be "What's It For?"

if a release uses very strange capitalisation, I always stick to it, but I find it hard to accept that things like using all caps is strictly artist intent. plenty of releases write everything in all caps.

MB is an English site. Since the Japanese author wrote the track names in Japanese, the English conversion will not have any English grammatical rules.

Because they don't exist in Japanese.

Thus, when the track names are converted to Engilsh on an English webpage, it makes sense to have English grammatical rules applied unless the author or company that released the album has said otherwise.
