i actually encoded kill bill 1+2 into h264

the files are ~750 MB in size yet almost DVD quality

that's pretty awesome :)

i still have dvd dumps around that await h264 encoding but i just don't have the time as it takes a day or so and it stalls out the box

I have enough problems finding people who can play xvid, let alone whatever the hell that is. ;P

and i ahve to make sure i do it at a time when i'm rather sure the box won't reboot, aside from power outages or sth

really you can encode a VOB dump down to 700-800MB without visible quality difference to the original MPEG-2 content

i mean, at a size of 800MB there is SOME slight decrease but it's negligable

well i encoded the audio into aac yeah

i don't think it's aac+

but using aac+ you could presumably use a bitrate of, let's say 64kbps for good _enough_ quality if you just want to watch the movie

and not blow it out your dolby 7.1 or whatever-you-have system

but i don't think faac can properly encode aac+ (yet?)

faad can de-code it but encoding is not possible atm i think (with free/open sourced software)
