or frank zappa. thats a whole load of hornests in there
enjayhch
tricky
but there are lots of obvious ones that people just haven't done - it isn't that clear when it hasn't been set, although I guess it doesn't matter too much until you assign a date as well
mo
albums should have a row with the heading AR and then just a number of how amny AR's its got
ValHallA|SW`gone has quit
well I tend to do the ones I come across. plust the ones I make. and the ones in my sub's (that arent in my subs because they're bogus)
WireD has quit
enjayhch
:)
I have been updating all the ones that are SURGE artists, and adding Wikipedia links where I can
starting with the artists that we have more than one track by
think we have music by about 1300 different artists
please tell me you're not in anyway accociated with that bogus bot that's been addign some release dates _-_
enjayhch
yah
mo
>_<**
enjayhch
the bot is just adding stuff entered by us
mo
did you ask if you got use the bot first?
enjayhch
ask who ?
mo
ruaok for example
enjayhch
the submissions are automatic, but the data entry isn't
mo
djce, yalaforge
enjayhch
mentioned it before, yeah
DJKC
<enjayhch> think we have music by about 1300 different artists <--- only? ^^
mo
I'd apreaciate if you'd ask first though. woudl give us a chance to check it out. might do some testign on test first. even help you make it more stable etc
enjayhch
DJKC: yeah - only
it isn't like an MP3 archive
mo
doesn't radio stations use CD's anymore??
o_O
enjayhch
our DJs nick them :(
mo
fux0r
>_<
enjayhch
so we don't like them touch them !
mo
why don't they just copy them instead of stealing them??
if they want the cd so much I mean
enjayhch
easier just to steal them ?
mo
bah
enjayhch
mo: the 'bot' is only submitting TRMs now, no more release dates
mo
se that's the kinda peopel that gives cd-pirating a *bad* name
:p
enjayhch
heh
the release dates submissions were syncing our database with musicbrainz
now our music staff enter it all into MusicBrainz
and our database steals it from there
Shepard
<mo> doesn't radio stations use CD's anymore?? <- our local radio station archives all their cds in mp3. more practical, isn't it?
enjayhch
we spend quite a lot of time adding intro times and segue points to our music
but once it is in the system, it is much easier playing off computer
and it can play tracks back to back automatically
(and sound good)
oh, nearly 11pm
University says I should leave the building by 11
oh well
DJKC
Profile Editor > All Artists (1402) <--- according to last.fm that's how many artists I've listened to. Vaguely amusing to have more artist variety than a radio station
admittedly some stations if you have more than a dozen artists you have more variety but I assume if you're using MB you're not one of those
enjayhch
most radio stations play a very limited selection of music :(
sorry, but there *is* a level of dumbness we really soudn't alow in, I mean, ok copy pasting and you accidenally don't delete the mp3, its exusable, ok, but that, you see it and go, 'oh, I'll just case change soem stuf' BAH
mo has eyeswirlies and awaits cikkolata's giggle
DJKC
you're assuming they saw it while editing something else in the title...
mo
wouldn't you?
DJKC
nope
it's long
mo
hmh
DJKC
if they're editing the beginning they might not read/see the end ^^;
but I can't tell what they edited even
mo
and they don't see the album, wher they clicked 'edit' either? o_O
to shee what peopel have changed different, i usually cipy both names into noteoade under each other, usually I can spot the difference
(couldn't now because I had somethign in my copy chache I was going to use)
yllona
not to change the topic, but i have a question about freedb
mo
we don't own it ;p
DJKC
what about it?
yllona
how do you submit albums to freedb so that they can be imported into MB?
DJKC
use a CD ripping/playing program that supports freedb submission
they have a list on the freedb.org website of programs
I'm not familiar with any mac ones off the top of my head
don't i have to enter the tracks manually?I'm on OS x.
ruaok
mo: sure.
yllona
*OS X
ruaok
ok.
well, at some point you have to enter them, no?
but if you install the MB client lib you can submit a CD>
DJKC
yllona: you'd have to enter the tracks manually on MB via the add album page, then can submit times by submitting the disc ID
ruaok
I should really make a small app that does that.
yllona
I have "ieatbrainz". i'll check to see if it will submit CDs
ruaok
Ohhh, and I just learned about Mac app bundles and all that. Its now pretty easy.
mo
I don't understand the confusion, people think TRM's come from dsics or freeDB or tracktimes or whatever. as far as I understood it, TRM is some thing (that we don't controll) that creates a fingerprint offa the 20 first secs aod a datafile mp3 or ogg?
