That it improves the quality of the data, and will make it easier to change to a better database schema in the future.

There is no change. Such a drastic change can not under any circumstances be decided by such a tiny amount of people on an insignificant mailing list that scares off the most active moderators.

new SOAD (hyptontize) is a very good album.

I believe there's already an RFE out there (and if there isn't, there should be) that allows you to attach a "VA" album to an "main" artist.

All of this should wait until then. But some people have decided that jumping the gun is a good thing.
