I was using the labels site a lot as well but hate that many dont have the catalog #'s (just anal about that) where as all mg, discogs & amz typically have it all in 1 place

OK
teleGUISE
I really wish more of that was listed.. typically your ean/upc is a sure bet (of course with recent stuff)
Do those dutch artists generally use the same label or various small ones?

zout
I don't even know
teleGUISE
Cuz i've emailed a few smaller labels/artists and explained what I was doing giving them MBrainz links and some (not all) actually replied giving me all the info I wanted.. (dates/catalog #'s) etc..
zout
for what artists?
teleGUISE
1 off the top of my head was Richard Cheese
warp
is there a convention for listing catalog #'s in MB?
teleGUISE
Another was for Benny Benassi (from the label)
Moby & Madonna stuff.. from people that maintain the discogs
zout
OK
I can try that in the future
ojnkpjg
that reminds me
i emailed JDV from temporary residence
he said he was going to send me a list of release dates
but he never did
so now i am going to bug him again
teleGUISE
A few others... if i can find my darn emails
its all a crap shoot.. but it cant hurt.. lots of times you get the right person reading the mail and they click the link to Mbrainz and think its cool youll get the info.. Of course dont go asking Sony for all the Columbia catalog listsings or Warner Bros. for all the Reprise ;)
warp: Shepard wrote a proposal up bases on all the facts he stole from me ;0 but cant seem to find it now in the wiki
intgr
The album name "re:aa" should stay in its original case, right?
warp
teleGUISE: ah :/
teleGUISE
warp: It's not a cast in stone but many of us follow the convention similar to "Label: Warner Bros. - Catalog #: 71713" .. (thats a very general one) In hopes of a auto script being created and sucking all that out of the annotation area when we get those fields created
warp
teleGUISE: sounds good
Shepard
teleGUISE: which of my proposals? ;)
warp
teleGUISE: i'll look for some when i ever have some spare time to add a bunch i want added :)
teleGUISE
warp: I know its kind of a pain but if you have the album in front of you it takes 2 seconds to c&p and save EVERYONE else ooodles of time later trying to find all that
warp
teleGUISE: well, it's one of the things I want to have in the filename, and would therefore like for the tagger to support.

teleGUISE
warp: it just makes verification of the release date be real and correct soooooooo much easier
there they are... see thats where the wiki is errr...
Shepard
great!
;)
teleGUISE
I see you have that as a link from yourPlease Note!: but it wasnt big enoug ;)
Shepard
you just need glasses
teleGUISE
well and I have a serious problem with english ;) ... Attribute and Annotation are too similar
Shepard
and i thought you're the english pro
intgr
Similar?
teleGUISE
far from it .. I really am not sure the use of attribute and annotation is 100% correct in Mbrainz implementation
yeah... they both start with A and have 10 letters
intgr
I find counting the letters in a word much harder than reading them. ;)
teleGUISE
attribute - <data> A named value or relationship that exists for some or all instances of some entity and is directly associated ; annotation - Extra information associated with a particular point in a document
now there it says a -annotation- is extra information, here - The act or process of furnishing critical commentary or explanatory notes. (now its CRITICAL)
attribute - To relate to a particular point ... hmmm didnt they just say that about 'annotation'
intgr
You never gave us a definition of annotation.
Shepard
i see attributes as parameters and annotations as notes/comments
teleGUISE
teleGUISEattribute - <data> A named value or relationship that exists for some or all instances of some entity and is directly associated ; ANNOTATION - Extra information associated with a particular point in a document
intgr
From The Collaborative International Dictionary of English, Annotation - A note, added by way of comment, or explanation
teleGUISE: That was attribute, FYI.
Ah
teleGUISE
no that was annotation from the dictionary
intgr
I didn't notice the other one in the end
teleGUISE
;)
GURT
Lightning bolts are an attribute of Zeus.
teleGUISE
attributes = parameters ... parameters = variables and numerical values
Those two words are generally used in similar contexts as in MusicBrainz so I'm pretty sure we got them right.
teleGUISE
fuchs: oh quit givin zout the easy edits and participate in the english language discussion ;)
GURT
they're going to have to be edited eventually
zout
tele: check the first report
Shepard
fuchs: are the titles/explanations wrong? because they are the same for both
zout
1147 albums with a language set but no script!
please help out everybody!
teleGUISE
the easiest way i guess is - annotate is to note and attribute is a characteristic
there .. i think i solved my own problem ;)
Shepard
so we can go on working? ;)
intgr
I think there should be an 'add an album manually' link on the "Artist/album/track not found?" page.
teleGUISE
No I think we should use those words instead... So I dont have to think about it again
intgr
'Characteristic' is a long and a bad word.
And annotations would also fit under the definition.
teleGUISE
ok trait
intgr
It's probably better to just leave it as it is.
teleGUISE
its a lot more cut and dry - characteristic : Being a feature that helps to distinguish a person or thing; (isnt that much better to describe REMIX, live etc..)

fuchs
teleGUISE: don't be jealous ;)
Shepard: thx, fixed
Shepard
and fuchs: the report of course links to your server D:
so no editing
fuchs
Shepard: of course it does
teleGUISE
just playin.. a synonym of attribute is characteristic
tele, and what do you really mean with ReleaseDataSetAnnotation?
PacketCollision joined the channel
teleGUISE
ReleaseDataSet - ReleaseAnnotationStyle
Meaning I think the release information is more important than a language setting
how often does one search in their personal discog by language vs. release information
RaggedJack has quit
thanks zout and dseom its NOW GONE ;)
well.. not yet.. almost
no.. it cant be.. not one of those hangers
tadaa.. its gone
fuchs
*?*
teleGUISE: what is there to be implemented for the annotation?
PacketCollision has quit
PacketCollision joined the channel
teleGUISE
people that enter titles like Soundtrack, Album, Playlist ... need a whippin'
fuchs
teleGUISE: and releasedataset needs AlbumRework
teleGUISE
fuchs: Well FINALLY we have the release date as part of the album add process.. I dont know how long I and Im sure many others begged for this.
nikki_
I think yalaforge wrote that a year or two ago but it never got merged into the main branch
or something like that
teleGUISE
fuchs: Yes.. I remember seeing ru's comment about wanting to implement anything regarding extra fields kind of all together (if i understood him correctly)
nikki_
schema changes?
teleGUISE
but see its things like nikki stated a Year or Two.. come on.. we needed that then.. Lookat all the releases entered since then w/o it
fuchs
teleGUISE: it's not a trivial change, implementing ReleaseDataSets needs more than adding a few fields to html-pages
Shepard
now i see people entering incorrect release dates
really great
teleGUISE
I understand he doesnt want to change the structure 50 times.. but certain things need to be added asap or if you keep stacking (relationships) things that need to be done in assocation with.. It will never get done because it will be a huge amount of work..
