I was thinking something more along the lines of... loading an album and hitting guess case is easy mods for anyone, whereas trying to, for example, determine the release date of some obscure album can take hours.

Trongersoll: remember not everybody uses XP and as I've already noted, even on XP and correctly tagged files a lot of applications can't deal with it properly, I haven't even looked at hardware support yet! Forget about id3v2.4 as it's even less supported than id3v2.3, anyway that's the end of the subject at the moment

hmmm... my winamp didn't like that file's title... i can see where people might be upset. but then they could change it to something readable after tagging... i kind of like the song though. i never heard of her, i'll have to check her out.

i guess part of the problem is defining what musicbrainz is for. if it is a tagger first & formost then it should be pi, if it is a database documenting music it should be the symbol

true, it is shown as the symbol on the physical CD sleeve, but all the release notifications that went to retailers used Pi
