hrm... reading the -user discussion that prompted web forum stuff.
4:40 AM
a clear case of how different people have totally different views on things ;)
4:42 AM
mailing lists and wikis are bad "But everyone's used forums"?
4:42 AM
i find web forums to be largely totally useless. impossible to read and full of crap that you have to wait to load in a web page with gfx and other crap.
4:43 AM
nntp so much easier ;)
4:43 AM
ruaok
everyone has their favorite approach, right?
4:43 AM
taaz
sure. forums just are not mine.

I can see the point -- there is a gap that should be filled.

i understand why some people like them though.

moderator - moderator communitcation is a bit lame right now.

i undetstand why mailing lists are bad too. too hard to just post a one liner question. have to subscribe then wade through unrelated messages to see if you get a reply and often don't.
5:02 AM
so how are music collection systems supposed to use mb? keep a local cache of all rdf used to edit objects (ie, tag or otherwise change properties) and occasionally ping the server and reload all that to check for changes the user might be interested in?

real_: are you talking about using the tunepimp tagger?
21:50 PM
real_
no just style general
21:51 PM
djce
Well, call it "08/15" then.
21:51 PM
All characters are allowed in the database - use whatever is correct.
21:51 PM
real_
so for mb database add 08/15
21:51 PM
but what about for local
21:51 PM
djce
Are you renaming it by hand then?
21:51 PM
or some automated thing?
21:52 PM
real_
easytag
21:52 PM
it keeps replacing with '-'
21:52 PM
08-15
21:52 PM
djce
I don't know what "easytag" is.
21:56 PM

What reasons might cause musicbrainz to error out when writing id3s with the message (Could not write metadata to file)?
22:50 PM
I have tried ripping with Grip and Kaudiocreator.
22:50 PM
I even recompiled both of them.
23:04 PM
djce
blizzow: using tunepimp, is that?
23:05 PM
blizzow
I've actually been using the musicbrainz tagger. I couldn't find anything that would tag my files and re-organize like I wanted.
23:05 PM
I've never heard of tunepimp
23:05 PM
Is it good?
23:05 PM
djce
tunepimp is the library which the Tagger uses
23:06 PM
I thought since you alluded to Linux, maybe you were using the tunepimp library directly
23:06 PM
any the Tagger uses it...
23:06 PM
so I assume you've checked disk full, etc?
23:06 PM
is it just some problem files, or all files?
23:07 PM
blizzow
All files that I rip with grip or kaudiocreator.
23:07 PM
djce
ok, that's useful to know. It's good to be able to reproduce problems.
23:08 PM
The chap you need to talk to is ruaok - the author of the Tagger
23:08 PM
if you drop a mail to support at
musicbrainz.org , he'll help you - he might ask for a sample file to work with
23:09 PM
blizzow
thanks for the advice, I'll try and get in touch.

you're welcome
