hey guys, is there any way to get an artist image, as seen here to the left https://musicbrainz.org/artist/31745282-b1ea-4d..., programatically?

i initially wanted to pull these from last.fm but it doesnt support disambiguation

with programatically i mean via the xml web service 2

actually it wouldve been even better if i could do that via a 3rd party service that understands mbid, as i dont want to make too many requests given a limit of 1 per second

hi kuraj, yes, you'd do a lookup on the artist and include URL-rels, then filter those for the "image" type (221132e9-e30e-43f2-a741-15afc4c5fa7c)

Alternately, you can find the wikidata link and then use their api to find images.

well its one lookup for each artist

im making a search input that returns top 3 results as you type

i guess i'll just have to run my own copy of the database

i just realized my workplace gives me like $100 to spend on azure a month

i could use that to set up a copy of the musicbrainz db and roll my own webservice

kuraj: VMs on this page are outdated, ruaok is working on new VM, beta is available at ftp://ftp.eu.metabrainz.org/pub/musicbrainz-vm/

beta3 seems to have few reports of issues so far.

I'm planning on releasing a new version of the VM this week. seems good enough for now.

I updated wiki documentation with a warning about outdated VM and ongoing development.

could you please also add a link to the musicbrainz-vm project and the VM-USAGE.md file?

is the webserver preconfigured to be accessible from the host machine?

i changed the vm network adapter settings to host only

i looked up the ip address on the vm using ifconfig

but http://ipaddr:8080 on the host machine doesnt work
