yvanz: does it matter what came first? Aren't the resulting recordings equivalent regardless of whether they were technically merged from separate ones or split from together ones?
I'd say the relationship is the same and maybe it just shouldn't be called "compiled" if that arbitrarily blocks one of the meanings, but something else

reosarevok: Actually, there are two issues in this ticket and its comments: 1. Allow for both directions/meanings (improvement I voted for) 2. Distinguish between them (requested feature I don't have strong opinion about).
