hmm. so, what are we supposed to put as the name of events that don't seem to have a name?
      • just "[Artist], [Artist], [Artist] at [Venue]"?
      • zaal joined the channel
      • reosarevok
      • Eventually maybe we'll have a way to build a name on the fly for events without one, but for now :)
      • jesus2099
kepstin-laptop: i wanted to write a ticket so that the name is auto‐dynamic, (in your language) don’t need to write…
      • most concerts no name
      • reosarevok
        jesus2099: already added actually :)
      • (the ticket)
      • jesus2099
great ! without my name as reporter, it has greater chances to pass ! ;)
      • kepstin-laptop
wow, I just added an event at a place that's in a town which doesn't even have a wikipedia article
      • Freso
We haven't even had them for a day yet, and there are already 4 open merges: https://musicbrainz.org/search/edits?auto_edit_... :p
      • kepstin-laptop
        http://www.burnstown.ca/ - it has a website, tho!
      • reosarevok
        :p
      • Assuming it's events, anyway
      • Luckily, we also have a report! :)
      • kepstin-laptop
is there some explanation on how the setlist syntax works? with some examples?
      • reosarevok
https://musicbrainz.org/event/43bf76c4-10ed-45c... has an example of two of the three cases
      • jesus2099
luks: hi, is the Sources column of AcoustID is incrementing each time we scan ?
      • reosarevok: wow !
      • it seems redundant to have @ worj entity type plus [|] syntax… couldn’t it be just @mbid *mbid ?
      • the link and name would be generated server side…
      • kepstin-laptop
a preview would be nice too
      • jesus2099
i mean that the name we have to write here is duplicate bogus with entity’s name and will be out of sync sooner or later
      • reosarevok
No, it's not, because there's no reason you want the same title
      • jesus2099
no reason to use the song title ?
      • reosarevok
No reason the full work title is what you want displayed there
      • jesus2099
if some very specific cases we don’t want same name, then an optional syntax for this, but not having to write all this in most cases where it is not needed…
      • reosarevok
Well, add a ticket - I'm not sure I agree with it, but if others do *shrug*
      • kepstin-laptop: it would - ticket too :p
      • jesus2099: I'd definitely expect a transliterated name for, say, a Russian composer in an English event, for example
      • jesus2099
it could use the available english alias ;p
      • Freso
reosarevok: How do you delete an event? Clear it and wait for ModBot purge?
      • jesus2099
it would use your language anyway instead of whatever language
      • reosarevok
Using the setlist language that is stored where? But anyway, if an event has a printed setlist (like most classical) I'd definitely follow that setlist in the language it is and with the titles it has
      • Freso: yup, like most other entities by now :)
      • jesus2099
reosarevok: i mean your preference language, not whatever’s language
      • reosarevok
        I know, and disagree :p
      • reosarevok shrugs
      • jesus2099
setlist are almost never officially printed
      • (except in classical probably)
      • it’s great to have a way of writing name probably but it is not optional as it should be imo ;)
      • reosarevok
        Ticket then
      • jesus2099
because in 99,99% my cases i don’t need another name
      • just chatting here… i’m on ticket strike
      •  ;p
      • i will not shrug you more because i will probably just paste some plain text tracklists maximum i would do if i even do anything
      • there’s so much to do, ihaven’t even yet gone through all (not so manyp) my records…
      • reosarevok
Yeah - I mostly did that for classical where work links are more relevant and useful to add. For pop concerts I imagine most people would be happy with just a plain text setlist
      • :)
      • jesus2099
        bye :)
      • jesus2099 has left the channel
      • kepstin-laptop
many pop/rock setlists printed for the performers use (and often... taken... by fans after the show) use shorthand or abbreviated titles
      • do we want to preserve that?
      • Freso
        I'd say yes.
      • reosarevok
I'm not too sure - I'd say we should probably not, because it makes setlists less useful (setlist.fm doesn't AFAICT)
      • But I'd rather allow storing photos or scans of the original setlists instead
      • Of course, that'd need the IA :p
      • Freso
reosarevok: When is something a support act vs. main performer?
      • You could argue that only Henrik Hass is the main performer, but all of the current main performers are "head lined" in PR material.
      • Mineo
depends on the font size on the poster?:P
      • Freso
        Oh. There's also guest act.
      • reosarevok
Freso: It's a fairly grey line, heh
      • But since we can't do any kind of auto-detect by popularity, last.fm style, I guess it's the best we can do right now :/
      • Sometimes there's no obvious division at all and then I'd probably just go with everyone as main performer
      • In this case I'd say if it's X's release party, they're main and the others aren't, but :)
      • Freso
Yeah. I just wanted to distinguish between e.g. Mund de Carlo and Swaginas, as MdC had Swaginas as guests during his set.
      • ocharles_
        Hurrah, I added an event!
      • it took me a lot of thinking to find how to add things though
      • (I found out you now have to "edit" the artist)
      • reosarevok
ocharles_ : the plan is for places and performers to get their own, more obvious fields in the event edit form at some point, fwiw :)
      • (same for members in bands, and stuff like that)
      • ocharles_
        right
      • reosarevok
bitmap's already been working on that
      • ocharles_
it was just more starting the process was quite hidden
      • it wasn't obvious where I was even meant to go to start the flow
      • Freso
Someone needs to write a Facebook event importer userscript now... :p

        Freso: and Last.fm
      • Freso
I'm thinking that Last.fm should probably be bot-handled.
      • kepstin-laptop
a lot of the local bands I follow use facebook events
      • nice that we have facebook event urls from day 1 :)
      • Freso
        Yep.
      • kepstin-laptop
I tried adding two events this morning, and we were missing the areas for the places where both were held :/
      • (both were small towns)
      • hawke
So how do you set the 'owned' and 'wishlist' types on collections?
      • I tried to edit a couple of my collections but I can’t change the type — the dropdown is disabled.
      • kepstin-laptop
yeah, looks like you can only set it on new collections for some reason
      • if you undisable the dropdown with web inspector, you get an sql error
      • so, i guess it's just not ready yet :/
      • _5moufl
pregap tracks should be tracks 0 right?
      • kepstin-laptop
        yes
      • hawke
        No.
      • (IMO ;-) )
      • _5moufl
        yes
      • It makes no sense to have all the other tracks with a wrong track number
      • kepstin-laptop
the track that plays when you pick the number 1 in your cd player should have the number 1
      • hawke
_5moufl: I would give it no track number
      • kepstin-laptop
and the pregap is what plays if you go to track 1, then seek backwards 1 track
      • (in some cd players)
      • hawke
kepstin-laptop: I think most of them you have to seek rather than skip.
      • Freso
So track -1, like counting years. Screw 0.
      • hawke
the pregap is index 0 of track 1.
      • kepstin-laptop
I don't think i actually have any cds with track 1 pregap audio :/
      • hawke
So '1.0' would make some sense, but personally I would just leave it blank.
      • reosarevok: I think we need some style documentation ;-)
      • reosarevok
The collection type is a bug
      • I don't know how pregap is supposed to work yet
      • Need to look at it later
      • reosarevok was too busy with events
      • kepstin-laptop
the editor currently autofills in the number 0 for pregap tracks, for what that's worth.
      • reosarevok
I would personally expect it wouldn't have a track number at all, but I guess you maybe can have multiple pregap tracks?
      • hawke
        You can’t.
      • reosarevok
(in which case some numbering for their order might make some degree of sense)
      • hawke
At least, they wouldn’t be technically tracks— they’d be similar to the 'hidden track separated by a period of silence'
      • So multiple songs within the same track
      • reosarevok
I'm fine with keeping 0 for now if 0 is the "standard" the editor offers, but if there's only ever 1 pregap track I'd probably eventually just disable the track number field
      • (and make it either always 0 or always empty)
      • hawke
        +1 for 'always empty'.
      • kepstin-laptop
for people tagging audio, the track number 0 is nice because it maintains relative order when renaming files with picard.
      • hawke
Picard doesn’t use the number field at all.
      • kepstin-laptop
        oh, just the position?
      • huh.
      • hawke
        Yeah.
      • (unless it recently changed, I guess)
      • kepstin-laptop
what's the position of the pregap? is it 0?
      • or 1?
      • hawke
        Dunno. :-)
      • I was wondering the same, but have no way to test.
      • kepstin-laptop
find a release with a pregap track, do a ws query
      • ehrgeiz joined the channel
      • hawke
        Yeah, pregap is position 0
      • jesus2099 joined the channel
      • jesus2099
as far as i know, so called pregap “tracks” are index 0 of track 1 (all track have index 0 -usually -2sec-) index 0 is what plays if you played the previous track, index 1 is what plays when you skip to this track specifically
      • hawke
        jesus2099: Yes.
      • jesus2099
so yes, it should be track 1 or we should show 1#0 or nothing… track 0 is slightly incorrect to said ;)
      • hawke
jesus2099: we were wondering how it was represented in the webservice.
      • warp
I wish I could remember which CD my parents used to have which had lots of index 0 track intros
      • hawke
      • jesus2099
the only way to play index0 of a track is to play previous track and let the player play index 0 at the end on the last index of previous track. but for first track, the only way would be to seek backward indeed
      • hawke
So how do you add additional data tracks?
      • jesus2099
there is a checkbox below tracklist
      • but when you delete it, it remains so remember to remove it manually (if it was a mistake)
      • hawke
Yes, but how do you add more than one song on the data track?
