maybe Picard needs an "ipod friendly" setting (to abbreviate titles)
CatQuest
ja jøss
CallerNo6
then Castle CatQuest will be safe.
KRSCuan
We do have a Windows-friendly setting.
Dunno if it truncates file names above the NTFS limit.
Or I think that was actually a Win32 limit with the 255 or so chars.
Because NTFS also accepts things like question marks.

1-4 good buddy
grr. "10-4"
CatQuest
idk, if I try something weird with 32 systems looking at newer files I get filenames like blub~1.mp3
which iir is what dos did to files
longer than 8 chars
what does a win system do with files named like "Swan Lake: Act III: Scène: Siegfried's mother expresses joy at her son's choice of Odile. Siegfried and Odile dance. Rotbart and Odile leave the ball. " ? can we test?
waait you said ipod users
isn't that mac wanker-y? doesn't mac wanker-y do long filenames?
idk
hmmmmm
I wish we had a test server so i coudl test thist
navap
CatQuest: Other than the colons, that's fine as a filename
KRSCuan
CatQuest: Write the files with a non-MS NTFS driver, e.g. under Linux.
navap
If it's nested within long folders it'll eventually get truncated I think
KRSCuan
You can't open them under Windows if they contain a prohibited char.
how do I edit (the attributes of) a work->recording relationship?
adhawkins-away joined the channel
nm, it seems I have to edit the recording instead of the work.
if there is a work which represents the entire album, how should it be linked to a release? create a bunch of works for each recording and then have a recording -> work (recording) -> work (album) chain?
Mineo
I think that's how we do it for soundtracks
CallerNo6
and classical
warp
is there any userscript available to make that process easier? :)
warp has probably asked for that before.
CallerNo6 has no idea what the current best-practice workflows are
Mineo
at least the recording -> work part is pretty easy in the relationship editor

and we cannot do order, right? it's just work A is part of work B, and that's it.

In theory, the relationship order stuff added for series should be usable on other relations, I'd think?
need some server code work tho
kepstin-laptop would love to have order for stuff like work parts and medleys
or are you referring to the thing where setting series position to 0?
chirlu`
The latter.
kepstin-laptop thought there was a ticket for that already, but he can't find it.
I’m not aware of any.
kepstin-laptop
the issue itself is kind of silly, it's just a case where the perl validation code thinks the string "0" is false :/
chirlu`
MBS-3375 is resolved code-wise, it only needs the relationship type(s) to marked as orderable.
kepstin-laptop
yes, I have read that ticket.
it should probably go through style, IMO
chirlu`
+be
I like those "0" bugs. :-/
kepstin-laptop
when I was talking to bitmap and ian earlier, I thought the fix for my series number '0' bug was included in a pull request with some other general fixes, but I guess it wasn't.
bitmap
hmm, well I did add 0 checks in a bunch of places already
bitmap will look after he's done working on the track parser
kepstin-laptop
should I open a ticket so you don't forget?
bitmap
sure
kepstin-laptop
there we go, chirlu` should be happy now ;)

derwin: There's some rudimentary support for "live venues" in that you can add the places and make relationships that artists performed there on a given date and that releases/release groups can have "release event at" the places.
For more fleshed out event support, that's reo's GSoC project the summer, so it will hopefully be in the October schema change.
