Hello everyone
3:19 AM
I'm trying to create an application using libmusicbrainz5 and am having a little trouble
3:19 AM
3:20 AM
Say I pass "The\ Shins" as argv[1]
3:20 AM
printf("%d\n", mb5_release_list_size(rl)); prints 0
3:20 AM
Why would this be?
3:21 AM
Shouldn't it return the number of releases by The Shins?
3:21 AM
Or am I missing something?

smabie: I haven't used that library, but I'd think you need to pass the artist's ID, not name (since name's aren't unique). wouldn't you?
4:11 AM
smabie
I am not passing the name, mb5_artist_get_releaselist(artist);
4:11 AM
CallerNo6
er. s/name's/names
4:11 AM
smabie
artist is of type Md5Artist
4:12 AM
that should be unique, no?
4:12 AM
it's really just a void * pointer typecasted, the C interface is pretty lazy..
4:12 AM
err typedef
4:14 AM
I'm just printing the name out, with mb5_artist_get_name(artist, name, sizeof(name)); printf("artist is '%s'\n", name);
4:15 AM
CallerNo6
ah, I misunderstood
4:16 AM
Sorry, I'm definitely not the right person to answer.

m_b_5 or m_d_5?
4:44 AM
Leftmost
Since we're talking libmusicbrainz5, I'm guessing the former.

jesus2099: There's no limit for the amount of public (= standard) repositories per-user on GitHub. So you could have a repository for each of your scripts, if you wanted to. It's probably easier to manage them in a single one though.

jesus2009: You can use "git mv" to "move" files in a repository.
7:37 AM
Ie., rename them.

Freso: git mv is just a shorthand for mv, add, rm. The actual detection happens afterwards
8:35 AM
8:42 AM
Mineo
but 'git mv' is easier to remember :)

Detection doesn't kick in until diff-time, IIRC.
9:06 AM
(And you can modify diff params to consider more/less things as moved files.)

Would either of you mind helping me ID tracks in a set of mashups?

that is from the guy that had the libmusicbrainz question earlier today. So maybe that tool might even get MB support

I need to clean up some relationships, and it'll be easier once the two have been merged, so I won't have to clean it from both releases.

what artist should I put for a podcast? the artist tag is the same as the site that publishes it
20:45 PM
however, on the site it self it's posted by an certain author
20:51 PM
CallerNo6
"posted by" doesn't sound like an artist credit to me. it just sounds like the name of the person who wrote the blog post announcing the podcast?
20:52 PM
finalsummer
yes
20:52 PM
I assume he's the mixer but I'm not sure
20:52 PM
it does make sense though since his other post is about this genre of music
20:52 PM
it's not a talk show-ish podcast, but a mix type
20:54 PM
CallerNo6
oh? sounds interesting. link?

i would say not fit for our database, but that's me

we do have fact mixes and stuff though
21:00 PM
drsaunders
sure there's plenty of similar releases and i wouldn't vote no
21:01 PM
CallerNo6 has no idea how the artist credit should work on something like that
21:01 PM
back when i had my turntables i've posted many trance and hip-hop mixes online, but i wouldn't dare add them to the db
21:03 PM
CallerNo6
I guess I'd do ReleaseArtist [Tiny Mix Tapes] / [Kmmy Gbblr] and TrackArtist a big long artist credit with all the original artists joined by "/"?
21:04 PM
that's a wild guess
21:04 PM
drsaunders
no way to all the artists with a / split
21:04 PM
finalsummer
I went this way because the other mixes are this way
21:04 PM
drsaunders
i would definitely "fix" anything like that to VA
21:05 PM
finalsummer
there is a relationship for tracks that were included in a mix
21:05 PM
CallerNo6 defers to drsaunders's wisdom in the matter
21:05 PM
drsaunders
i don't mind the way you added the release probably the best with ARs to the tracks contained.. i just personally don't like those for the database
21:05 PM
but i'm jaded and set in my ways
21:06 PM
CallerNo6
it's "produced:" enough that I wouldn't know how to identify the correct recordings
21:08 PM
drsaunders
i could also bitch that its the transformer is "Jazz" and the music isn't jazz......
