the really weird thing about the vocaloid phenomenon is maybe how human singers are taking advantage of it; many of the vocaloid producers publish off-vocal tracks and nicovideo is full of people singing over them.

for the same reason any populr song is popular nd people liketo make covers?
idk
kepstin-laptop
well, it's kind of interesting because the original purpose of the vocaloid software was for making temporary fill vocals as guide tracks or for demos or whatnot, not to be the final result
ZaphodBeeblebrox
yea i know
it's gone 360 then sort of :D
neat
ZaphodBeeblebrox wonders if BABYMETAL's popularity was any reason for that being a thing in voaloides now
kepstin-laptop
some of the human covers of the songs are really, really good too, and a few of the people who got known via vocaloid song covers now are popular on their own
ZaphodBeeblebrox
... wnder how long for a cover of a song babymetal in vocaloid
kepstin-laptop: music.. :D it's liek that. amazing

speak of the devil :)

there's been a couple of english vocaloid songs doing well recently on nicovideo, which has posed an interesting challenge for a few of the cover singers :)
kepstin-laptop always finds http://piapro.net/en_for_creators.html kind of odd - the character images (not the music itself, or the software) for the Krypton Future Media characters is under a CC (BY-NC) license.
which makes a lot of (but not all of) the images of miku, etc. done by fan artists actually legal
not all of the art, because there's some special wording in the license (the "moral rights" bit) that excludes some.

luks: Actually, is the acoustID-MB sync not working? In addition to missed merges, I’m also seeing zero-length recordings on ACoustID.org that are not zero-length on mb.org

copyright in Japan is enforced by the copyright owner. if Krypton wants to sue, they can, but police can't act until Krypton asks them
it's a very assholish thing to do as well, and few labels do it. the ones who usually do it are either sony or west-affiliated
you have to register with JASRAC to broadcast their music though. so they can collect royalties
on paper - japanese copyright law is awful. de facto - it's a goodwill thing
if krypton decides to bad miku songs other that theirs - it's a sucide
