I personally don't have any releases in my collection I can't read (latin and cyrillic only), but there are many that can't read cyrillig for example but still like the music

(obligatory refernce to Чайковский here)

which makes me really patethic :)
JonnyJD_
google finds anything that is close ;-)
MB, too, by the way
ZaphodBeeblebrox
not tjakovsky
tjajkovski
etc
any type i misspell to heck and back
it doesn't help I am from norway with a different translitteraton than in english, but I then end up mashing english+ norwegia ntrasnliteratinos together to form rubbish when searching
JonnyJD_
yeah, you might need an alias for every transliteration to find it, but then when you have one you don't care much which one it is
german transliterations tend to be there as an alias..

nikki
JonnyJD_: I assume you enter english translations of any german releases you enter then, for the people who can't read german? :P
JonnyJD_
nikki: lol no. I was talking about german transliterations for tschaikowski (which is already the german transliteration)
ZaphodBeeblebrox
nikki: but german and english atleast have the same script :)
for cyrillic thoguh..
nikki
ZaphodBeeblebrox: my point is that people who can read japanese don't really want to maintain two sets of releases. someone who speaks german doesn't want to maintain fake english versions any more people who speak japanese want to maintain fake japanese versions, because it's more work for someone else's benefit
JonnyJD_
nikki: I do add translated track listings as pseudo-releases though when they are provided on the release itself
nikki: there isn't much to maintain. You enter it and only if somebody finds problems it gets changed
ZaphodBeeblebrox
nikki: but.. noone is forching them to? I mean I guess ocd and stuff. but
nikki
it means having to repeat all your edits twice
and if you don't find that annoying, you haven't had to do it enough yet :P
ZaphodBeeblebrox
well I aim to fix old buggerd trasnliterations i made
but well I guess its just about as annoying and furtive as every other edit in a way to me I guess :)
JonnyJD_
nikki: not at all, That is why we share recordings (and of course works) between track lists
nikki
either I fix one and leave the other incorrect and inconsistent, or I fix both and have twice as much work

SultS
unless we share everything else *but* tracklist between real and
nikki
it's not just recordings though, it's release titles, release artists, status, barcode, label, catno, disambiguation, track times, track artists, medium formats...
SultS
pseudo‐release, it can be pita
ZaphodBeeblebrox
o don't disagree we need a different soloution for bpudo releases
alt tracklists
nikki
not to mention cover art and all the release-level relationships
ZaphodBeeblebrox
for things like "fan" trasnaliterations down to official transliteration and even trasnaltions. if all you had to do was dupicate the tracklist/title/artist then that would be the best
JonnyJD_
I actually don't bother to add all release info for the trans*ated releases
ZaphodBeeblebrox
heh. kinda same. since they should really have them, since they arnt real releases
SultS
and if we had (will have?) relationship credits as well, that would possibly be another thing to worry about :)
JonnyJD_
but yes, could be better -> more could be shared
ZaphodBeeblebrox
indeed
I hope that is done
nikki
there are some people who use pseudo-releases who think pseudo-releases *should* have all that info copied to them though
ZaphodBeeblebrox
do away with pseudo releases all to gether
well that's their problem :)
one thing I would do, is, not link thins like pseudo t ojapanese amazon but to english /us one
nikki goes for food
I remember this one what had "apanese title " japanese title" japanese title" as the tracklist for the american page
jesus crist also :P
nikki
maybe someone wants to tell yindesu people agree with him about pseudo-releases and he should totally send a proposal saying they shouldn't have info copied to them and should instead just be the tracklist :P
ZaphodBeeblebrox
oh man totally
JonnyJD_
anyways, don't feel pushed to change transliterations, especially not if it is only "cosmetic" fixes (in contrast to switching tracks around)
ZaphodBeeblebrox
and have a (single) AR attached "is the transliterated" so they can be easilyier merged when that mess is fixed
wow, the new inline entity creation has made the work creation in the relationship editor /way/ better.
ZaphodBeeblebrox
hello kepstin \o/
kepstin-laptop is also on satellite internet since he's visting his parents place out in the country, so editing is a bit tedious :)
reosarevok_
kepstin-laptop: strongly disagree
kepstin-laptop
with what, the work creation or satellite internet? :)
reosarevok_
Now I need to pointlessly wait for a search which is slow as fuck even though I already know the work doesn't exist
kepstin-laptop
hmm, that is true.
(it's even slower on satellite)
but the work creation form is a better implementation, at least.
ZaphodBeeblebrox
!!!!!!!!!!
reosarevok_
Yes, agreed
And the *other* entity creation thingies are great :)
kepstin-laptop
the batch-create new works could still use some love tho.
reosarevok_
Yeah, a disambiguaton comment field, basically
nikki
what I really want is bitmap's thing for finding existing works for recordings integrating into the relationship editor
there are a bunch of live releases where I know all the works exist, but looking them up one by one? ehhh... maybe later :/
(lives being a particular problem since there I can't just merge the recordings :P)

reosarevok_: What should I enter as track titles here: In bold, the sleeve has "Variationen über ein Thema von Haydn op. 56a" in big bold, and underneath in smaller print "Variations on a Theme by Haydn"? Some works have the German title in bold, others the English.
reosarevok_
I'd just go with the bold one myself

Alright, and how do I deal with arrangers? E.g., some settings of Brahms' Hungarian Dances are Dvorak's, others Brahms'.
reosarevok_
Well, those are different works
Sometimes I do put the arranger in the artist field, especially if it's prominent enough in the artwork, as in Brahms / Dvorak
ryanakca
Alright, so they only get disambiguated at the relationships level?
Ah, OK.

reosarevok_: I thought the artist separator was supposed to be a comma? Or should it be a slash as in titles?
reosarevok_
Well, separator is supposed to be Composer, Composer; Performer, Performer for release artist
In general they're comma-separated, yes
There's nothing specific about arrangers though
(and whether they belong on track artist at all or not, since officially it says just composer)
X, Y would suggest two composers to me, so I do what quite a few actual CDs do and do Composer/Arranger

Is there a way to "save progress" in case my browser crashes? Or do I get to start everything over in that unfortunate circumstance?
kepstin-laptop
no saves for now. You'll be starting over :/
xplt
ryanakca: AFAIK, no: you'll have to start over :( It's really annoying for something big (like, 3xCD releases or >50 tracks), but unfortunately it is so
ruaok joined the channel
kepstin-laptop: do you have a ticket for that? Is it possible to cache the edits which wasn't submitted yet in Web storage of browser and then file it to MB and empty the cache?
reosarevok_
I mean
You can add a disc, then edit it again and add another, etc
To make sure a crash would cause the smallest amount of loss possible
