dragonzeron: even if your issue seems resolved I'd like to comment on it just for someone to correct me if I am wrong. I have often been told that Musicbrainz appreciated all data about the items in question that is more exact than the present data. So if it is more information to know that the Artist markets this as a cover of herself/himself than for me, that would be an improvement of the data...
personally, jesus2099 has corrected me (rightfully) on several japanese releases I have worked on - so I usually appreciate the input.

The term "self-cover" is common in Japanese music. This isn't just one artist using it.

even better...

i am always uncertain if my edits are "correct" ... and I often keep myself from asking here if it is all correct because I fear that I start going on peoples nerves ;)

gibbon_: I asked *a lot* here when I started. Don't be afraid to ask. Only way to get better. :)

Freso: thanks. then again: the style guides cover a lot of stuff now, so most questions can be resolved by RTFM.
Freso
gibbon_: But the "manual" is so big, so it'll often be quicker to post a question here and wait for a reply, than trying to dig it up yourself. :)

Freso: at least my perspective on this community is that it seems much more healthy and friendly than most of the rest of the communitys I try to swim in.
Freso
Thanks! We try! :D

Freso: I am aware... :)

Freso - then if its OK a noob question... editing many recordings associated with one release seems quite cumbersome... is there some obvious way to batch this that I am overlooking?
for example to set a composer on all or most of the recordings ..
Freso
There are some userscripts that help with stuff like that.

In the past I tended to leave the relationships alone, but most bandcamp releases that I entered also provide that information
I was afraid you would say that :)
Freso
Recording relationships can be batch added and edited using the relationship editor.
Ok, I will look into that... currently I am familiarizing myself with works and how to work with them...
and came across the ASCAP IDs ...
where I am quite unsure which one on their search engine actually is the ASCAP ID...
of a work... is it the Work ID listed in ASCAP?

hi, is there a french mailing list/forum for MB?
reosarevok
Not really
But post in the forums and specify it's about French and I bet some Frenchies will appear

is it OK to recommend in the forum a certain label? I follow this francophone label La Souterrain that puts out free compilations on bandcamp. I don't have time anymore to add their releases and I wanted to see if anybody else is interested. Would that be appropriate? Or does is sound like advertising?

are we allowed to copy information out of the ASCAP repertory?
Freso
gioele: I think it's fine to point out that there's a label that is putting out free stuff and you don't have time/energy to add it all yourself.
gibbon_: One thing is "Hey, this label is super cool, go check it out!", another thing is saying "Hey, I like this label and they're giving stuff away for free, but they're putting out more than I can handle myself. If someone else also thinks it's cool, I'd appreciate assistance with keeping up with their releases."
(Ie., one is a straight-up promotion, the other is a call for help with adding data.)
