is there a way to add Disc IDs if all I have is the EAC log with the TOC, not the physical disk? That is, does any existing tool exist for that, or would I need to talk to the API myself? everything I've seen so far wants to read the actual disk
c1e0: thanks, you made me go through that a second time and spot some more solutions.

huh. how can it be that the lengths of 8 tracks have changed drastically, without any such change existing in the edit log for the release? https://musicbrainz.org/release/a0f2cecc-6cc6-4... take track 20 for example and try to figure out why its length is 4:16, when in the last edit mentioning time it was 3:45

my guess is that it's due to attaching a disc ID
reosarevok
The discID has 3:45 for the last track though

CatQuest: hi! I'm sorry I've been caught up doing lots of schoolwork, but now I'm back on here for hopefully at least the next few days :)
the task is also taking me a really long time because translation is surprisingly difficult, because I don't have much of an idea of the exact terms used for the instruments, so I'm mostly just trying to figure it out depending on context
I should finish updating some things by tonight, hopefully :)
CatQuest
antara: hi!
don't sweat it
antara
yes :)
also, for the 'improve this instrument' subtasks do I have to do anything specific or is just compiling info like I've been doing until now okay?
CatQuest
jup that's fine, ust liek you've been doing
just like*

if it helps you limit yourself: what i'd need the most is inof about telling them apart: how they relate and how the "evolved". thing so that, once someone is given the term"veena" and these options, they could if possible pick the right ones out with theinformation them have.. to gear it into being able to disambiguate them.
so far what you've been doing is really goo d at this
how they relate and how the "evolved", how they look, strings and frets and amounts of these, as well as materials.
you've been doing that and it's really hlpefull
antara
okay! will do
CatQuest
also: if possible, what irc are you using?
antara
once I'm done with info addition I'll try and do relationships
CatQuest
it's goof if you cna lurk here as well
antara
right now just the freenode webchat
CatQuest
good not goof
antara
should I switch to something else?
CatQuest
aha. there are ircnode webchat, atual programs (also apps for phone if that's what you're using) and the irccloud client wich is a srt oof both combination
honestly, use what works for you,
anyway about translations: we have other indians in the chat (here and in #metabrainz (though that's for more development) that, might be able ot help you too, both other gci students and metors and devs)
mentors*
it's ok to ask other people for help also :)
the whole point of "open source" is "collaboration" :)
antara
okay, I'm usually using a laptop so this works, but I'll maybe try a phone app because this sometimes hangs
oh, that's lovely! I will absolutely ask if there are any more translation problems
CatQuest
:D there are also programs for irc .. what os on your laptop?
antara
windows 01
oops I mean 10
CatQuest
oh
i know nothing aobut that (I have win 7 on the other machine and an old mac 10.7 here) but i bleive there must be irc-clients for windows 10
Vonter has quit
I use "xchat" or "hexchat".
antara
oh okay
I'll hunt for those :)
CatQuest
for apps on a phone (I use android) I use irccloud, and revolutionirc. also on windows I use the irccloud client (wich is still experimental, it's true)
antara
hexchat seems to work for me
CatQuest
neat!
antara
I'll try installing it tonight
oh yes I've heard of irccloud, I'll try that too
CatQuest
that's cool. you can lurk in the channel and even after gci, I'd definitely want you here. you're research has been invaluable to me and. the point of gci (for us) is not jsut abusing student to do grunt work ;) it's to get more influx of people inot our database
I think you could, for example help reosarevok with how indian classicla works for example
any other gci students reading this: this goes for yo utoo! everyone working hard adding data to MusicBrainz (and BookBrainz) is welcome to stay after gci and add more!
👏
antara
yes, I'd love that :) I really like the instrument tasks because I get to learn so much
especially for the littler-known instruments, finding information is tough but it feels very rewarding
