albertus1: I don’t know of any open data generic ones. For food and cosmetics and pet food you may try the Open{Thing}Facts databases. I think OpenFoodFacts at least has barcodes associated with their items.

I'm not too determined yet, but I've been thinking about financial accounting techniques for my private consumption, and was thinking how to do it in a somewhat "complete" manner (tracking every single item), by possibly taking advantage of existing things such as product groups and the likes
