I want to re-analyze files already tagged by MBP. Is it possible to add the folder without MBP trying to automatically analyze everything?
It's completely bogging down the machine and will take seemingly HOURS to go through ~1,700 songs.
Even working with smaller datasets, MBP seems to run quite slowly...problem running on Windows?

Hi! I have some albums who don’t have a cover in the CAA yet, but they are not in condition. Do you think I should still try to add them?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I’ve just started contributing ^^.
xplt
Sylvhem: Having even a bad cover art is better than have none: it still could be useful for identifying things by others. And if someone will be able to upload an image with better quality, they will be able to delete your "bad" uploads, so do it!
Sylvhem
OK, thank you xplt :).
I have another question. For things like that album [https://3d63.bandcamp.com/album/electric-pawer], the digital version and the self-printed CD edition should count as two seperate releases, right?
do you guys think it'd be appropriate to move the (2020 remaster) to recording disambiguation?
it's a bit cluttered

Lotheric: generally "remaster" isn't a different recording though..
(so recordings should be merged)
Lotheric
ok so just remove them ?
the title already says it's a remaster
Sylvhem
Hmm, a digital release I have includes an animated variant of the album’s cover. Do you know if I should upload it to the CAA?

Lotheric
Sylvhem: sure if it's one of the format allowed by CAA
Sylvhem
OK, thank you!
Lotheric
you can also upload PDF booklets
Sylvhem
This one didn’t have a booklet.
But I have an album in slim jewel case that only has a single sheet of paper in it. The front art is obviously of type “Front”, but what type should I use for the back of this? It’s not the back of the packaging. Should I still use “Back”?
Zastai
Lotheric: if the info is indeed relevant (i.e. it is a different recording), then the info should be in the recording disambiguation. If it's just a remaster, then the recording is the same. Either way, it does not belong in the recording title
Lotheric
it's certainly not part of the track title, it's just extra info
I guess I'll just remove them altogether
Zastai
Lotheric: but for the track titles: a) it should always be in (parens) (some tracks have it in [square brackets]), b) I think it should be lowercase, so "remaster" not "Remaster", and c) it should be there only if it's listed on the release's track list (even if it's "cluttered")
Lotheric
I did not add the release originally, I'm just fixing it, it's on my todo ;)
Zastai
hey I'm not saying "do this nao!", just giving my opinion on what you asked :)

Sylvhem: i'd call the inside of the piece of paper "booklet"
since that's the closest to what it would be in a release with multiple pages
imo it would only be back if it's readable through the back of the case when the disk is inside and it's closed, which i assume isn't the case here :)
Sylvhem
Thank you kepstin! I’ll try that :).

Got disconnected the other day. Still looking for help with extreme slowness issue,
does stuff like a credit card -format usb stick count as a digital release?
I vaguely remember seeing something like that being a thing
also releases where you get a physical "cover" but it only has a download code inside
grxml0c
i dont see why not?
the download code should be considered a digital release
Yaniel
what about the USB memory
Zastai
well i would call a usb stick a physical release - there is even a "USB Flash Drive" in the medium list
Yaniel
ah
grxml0c
yeah, what @zastai siad
*said
Zastai
the download code is trickier. it is kinda sorta physical
but also not
grxml0c
i mean you are getting a "physical copy" per-say
just with a code instead of an actual physical CD
Zastai
but the physical copy is not a medium for the audio content
so i guess for MB that counts as digital media
but, it might warrant a separate release in the db, with an annotation about the physical cover and D/L code, with possible scans
as opposed to the pure digital release for the one on itunes & co
Yaniel
Lotheric: ^ so yes, I'd say a digital release can be "manufactured for"
Zastai
(or, they are contractually obliged to retain those rights statements from the original 1995 release)
grxml0c
man ive missed irc chat so much
Yaniel
I have seen a case being mentioned where some artist chose to distribute only paper covers / sleeves with a download code, meant as an environmentalist statement
rdswift
Not to mention that it's a lot cheaper to produce. ;-)
